“A good place to stay en route to Yosemite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2009

We stayed one night on our way to Yosemite. The property includes several two-story buildings and we stayed in one at the top of the hill. The room was rather spacious; it was equipped with fridge, microwave, coffee maker. Free WiFi was included. There was a balcony looking out into the woods. Free parking in front of the building. Overall a good place to spend the night en route to Yosemite.

Hotel was a layover stop en route to Yosemite. Great location an hour away from the park. Only stayed one night as I imagine other travelers are likely doing the same thing as well. The property is actually composed of many lodge-like homes. I stayed at the one that was at the very top of the premise. It was a bi-level structure. We stayed on the first floor with a balcony that looked out into the woods.

The room itself was okay. Nothing special but good enough for a semi-comfortable overnight stay. I remember it booking the room at a pretty decent price, so no complains here.

There's a Carl's Jr, McDonald's, Starbucks in the area. Not much else tho. Again, good enough for a one-night stand.

Chose this location based on pictures on their website (accurate) and price (couldn't see spending $200 - $500 for a place to sleep one night). The room was very large and well appointed with a fireplace, small fridge and microwave. Balcony overlooked the outside pool and trees. Convenient parking at the door. Very friendly and helpful front desk staff. Good restaurant for breakfast next door with discount for motel guests.

We stayed in the BW Yosemite Gateway Inn for 3 nights in May 2009.

The room was large but not at all clean! We complained several times, but the crumbs from previous occupants remained on the floor around the bed and the edges of the room.

The on-site restaurant was awful. No breakfast was included in the rate.

We would definitely not stay here again.

We stayed at this motel for a very reasonable rate for our trip into Yosemite. The BW is clean, and it has fabulous park-like grounds. The pool area is beautiful, and the motel is relaxing and quiet. The rooms are very dated in terms of style, but they are large and reasonably comfortable. The attached restaurant/bar has good food, but the service is sometimes a bit slow. Their burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches are great!

Staying around Yosemite is difficult, and you should expect lots of driving. It took us around 25 minutes to get from the BW to the park entrance. From there, the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias is close, and you cannot miss it, regardless of where you stay around the park. However, Yosemite Valley is nearly an hour away from the entrance (1.5 hours from the hotel). Yes, the drive is beautiful, but it's difficult to do after a long day of hiking. Also, my favorite place in the park was in the High Sierras toward the Tioga Pass, about 3 hours from Oakhurst. Really, there is no way around the driving unless you have lots of money to stay in Yosemite Valley or are willing to camp. Even the tent-cabins with a shared bathroom are around $100/night!

I guess my main tips are the following: (1) Go to Yosemite; (2) If you have the money, stay on the valley floor because it is the most central spot (even though you will still drive a lot if you want to explore the sequoia groves or High Sierra sub-alpine regions); (3) the BW Oakhurst is a solid choice if you are on a budget; (4) at least going in and out of Oakhurst daily will get you to good grocery strore, a few restaurants, and a couple great places to pick-up coffee for the AM drive to the park.

My wife and I recently stayed here and really enjoyed it. The rooms are nice with comfortable beds and the housekeeping staff does a good job of keeping them spotless. The hotel has a restaurant that is reasonably priced with good food and some dishes that are outstanding. The staff is very friendly and really make you feel welcome. It takes about 30 minutes to drive to the southern entrance of Yosemite from here and the outdoor spa was a great amenity to have after a day of hiking in the park although it is rather small. There is also an indoor pool and spa but the chlorine smell was quite strong. Overall, a great place to stay for either couples or families.
