This best western was big with lots of amenities. The rooms were clean with somewhat dated decor, but everything worked fine and there was a fridge and microwave as well. The desk staff were not particularly friendly, but not rude, ether. The location is great for going to Yosemite, and we also went to Kings Canyon one day of our three there. I would recommend staying at the hotel - but skip the restaurant. Our first night we had dinner there, it took forever to get a simple sandwich and salad. The waitress was nice, but unapologetic, saying that the hotel was full so they were busy. We tried the breakfast the next day. Food was ice cold, very little selection - just awful. Oakhurst is a bit of an odd town. There are very few restaurants open after nine, and there don't seem to be any other than chains or pizza joints. As one other reviewer noted - hit thte grocery store for supplies and you'll be fine. the value for the price was good.

On a recent trip to yosemite we stayed two nights at the Gateway Inn. The hotel is older, but is well maintained. The rooms are huge. The bathroom vanity was very long, easily accomodating all of the "stuff" my wife brings along, plus all of mine too. The hotel is a bit different in that you check in a very nicely appointed lobby building, then you are assigned a room in one of the many buildings spread randomly across the forested hillside. Because of this design, the hotel blends easily into the beautiful landscape. The attached restaurant lunch and dinner food was very good and the breakfast buffet included eggs and a breakfast meat, plus all of the other things you would expect on a breakfast buffet. Your pool choice includes an indoor and an outdoor pool. We had arranged an all day tour with Discover Yosemite and they promptly picked us up at the front door and returned us to the hotel lobby at the end of the tour. This is an easy way to see yosemite if you only have one day. If you drive it, you are about 20 minutes from the park entrance. That makes this hotel one of the closest to the park. In short, if I'm ever again in this area, I will stay at the Gateway Inn and would not hesitate to recommend that you do the same.

Since this is my fourth stay at this property in the past five years, I obviously enjoy my time here or I would not come back. The price is right if you time your trip correctly. My total AAA rate (with tax) was $75.92. Not bad for being reasonably close to a major national park (Yosemite). Check in and check out was quick. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The shower was hot. There is a fitness center at this location. The full complimentary breakfast was filling. And even though this place was booked solid when I arrived, I still found a place to park near my room. I will stay here again when I come back to visit Yosemite National Park.

Room Tip: The rooms numbered in the 300s and 400s are located at the back of the property, farthest from the m...

We stayed here 1 night so we could get to Yosemite relatively quickly the next day and the TA reviews were ok. This isn't the sort of place we usually stay at - too big and impersonal - however this fit the bill for our purposes on this occasion.

The pluses:
Room was big and well appointed.
Grounds are nicely landscaped and although the property is large and sprawling it is easy to get around using well placed stairs and walkways.
Laundry on site was a real bonus.
Two pools and spa pools - one inside, one outside. We overlooked the outside pool which was very pleasant. The spa pool was down a short set of stairs separate to the pool and nicely tucked away in a nice setting. We were able to use it with only one other couple present in the evening, a pleasant surprise considering the size of the property.
Breakfast staff were very pleasant and helpful with explaining where everything was and how it worked, was happy to tip them.
2 supermarkets just down the road so you can stock up for Yosemite at reasonable prices.

The minuses:
The front desk staff we encountered were all very impersonal with no warmth exhibited. Appeared to be 'going through the motions'.
The breakfast itself, although cooked options available was very average. When your waffles are dry and hard, there is a problem!

Overall met our expectations in most areas and worked well for us. Would be perfectly happy to stay here again for a night but not sure I'd want to spend a long time here.

We stayed here during our visit to California. It was ideally situation being just 1 hour from Yosemite National Park.

The room was fine, but quite dark and with some painting that looked like they came straight from the 1980's.

We ate at the restaurant once for dinner, and had breakfast there because it was part of the package. Have to say that the breakfast wasnt up to much.

Having read the comments from another reviewer I wonder if we were there at the same time as we had a very noisy family with screaming kids in the same block.

My wife and I stayed here during our honeymoon tour of California.

The hotel is a great location for Yosemite.
The rooms are a good size with good amenities and very quick free wifi.

Food was also good at the restaurant.

The only downside was we had a very noisy family above us. This made us realise how echoey the rooms are. The family above us thought it was acceptable to let their two children run around and bang on the floor until 11;00pm.
This is where the hotel was let down by its staff.
Despite asking to be moved were told there was only one free room and that was on a different tariff.
This was a real shame as everything else about the state was perfect.

We spend here two night on September when we visited Yosemite. Yosemite Valley is one hour drive away from hotel. Hotel was clean, pool area was nice and breakfast was ok. There was three computers and printer in lobby for use without any timelimits.
