“Southern Gateway to Yosemite”

Stayed 2 nights a couple weeks ago during a winter Yosemite visit. Late check-in was quick. Room was well apointed and even had a flatscreen TV. Complimentary breakfast was basic and convenent. Managers were very pleasant. Only critcism are some very hard bath towels.

Oakhurst is 15 mins from the southern entrance to Yosemite and it's another 45 mn drive to the valley once you are in the park,

Booking in at lunchtime we expected the Days Inn at Oakhurst to be of a decent standard accepted the price of $132, because prices do seem to be higher the closer you get to National Parks, dropped our bags off and not being overly impressed with the room we decided to look somewhere else for another 2 nights.

The room which was on the top floor at the front. was entered from a car park up a hill at the back. It had dormer windows, tatty curtains and although clean the bathroom was really small with a loose tile the a/c was noisy and there was a lot of noise from the road in the early morning.

Definately not worth the cash paid for it, we got a much better down the road for $71 and stayed 2 nights.

We came across this hotel thru the Tourist Information advertising across road. We paid $135 pn with AAA discount. Lady in wheelchair at hotel, was great with information on Yosemite NP and recommended a tour. We had a private guide who was just magnificent and a wealth of knowledge. Rooms were clean and comfy. Continental Breaky served in small room near office was included in the price.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor, nice outlook

All the places to stay in Oakhurst are quite expensive, given its proximity to Yosemite National Park about 13-14 miles away. We hoped that Days Inn would be the best room for the price. Overall, we were not disappointed. The room was immaculately clean, fairly large, and the beds were very comfortable. The receptionist at the desk was very friendly and helpful. One of us misplaced a key to the room, and she gave her another one without problem. However, given that we wanted to see birds and other wildlife at Yosemite, we were gone from the hotel well before breakfast was served at 7 AM. In my view, breakfast should have been served at least an hour earlier, to accommodate guests who wanted to get the most out of the park, which is at its best in early morning.

We came late (21.00) and had because of that reason a room for 279 USD . Because we were tired we accepted the price.

Next day our body was under red irritated bumps. When we started to investigate the room we discovered a lot of little red bugs. When we pulled the sheets off the beds, we saw old dried blood stains. Probably from previous guests.

So we left the room in a hurry. When we informed the receptionist, she was not even surprised. She indicated that the room would be cleaned soon.

We stayed ther one night ( one too many) after visiting Yosemite. Hotel was terrible and clearly trades off it' proximity to Yosemite. When we arrived having made the mistake of pre booking the room the standard of service at check in was disgraceful. We asked to look at the room and once we had seen it we wanted to cancel the booking there and then. The rude woman snapped that it would cost us $48 to cancel. We asked to see another room and this was really no better than the first and on principle decided to suffer the place as it was only one night. The room is dark, dirty and quite depressing. The air con useless and noise all night long from the adjoining room thru the paper thin walls and the traffic on the main highway right outside.
Breakfast was no better with enough table for a fraction of the rooms and we ended up eating breakfast in the foyer. We stay at a lot of hotels and can say without question this place is the worst we have stayed in ever.For $132 for the night we should have slept in the car!

Don’t stay at a Days Inn

We booked a number of rooms at one of these companies’ hotels in Oakhurst, California for our family gathering over the Labor Day weekend.
We used the on line booking service and when we had to make a change to one of the rooms were told that as we had booked on line we had to contact the on line booking folks by using the free phone number provided.
This number connects you to the Help Desk in India. The word Help Desk proved to be the most UN helpful, UN interested and UN caring place one could possibly contact.
The basic lack of understanding of our issue was compiled by the lack of comprehension of the English language shown by the representative at the booking center.
After explaining that we had booked rooms months earlier, providing a confirmation number and being assured that the change by one night to one room would not affect our room rate we were shocked to receive on line conformation of the changes.
Our room rate had gone up from one hundred and five dollars a night to 350 dollars for the night despite having booked these rooms months in advance.
We again phoned the on line phone deck this time getting another equally UN qualified person on the other end of the phone.
After pointing out the changes that had been made to our booking and the price gouging increase taking place we were told that’s the price in my book so that’s the price.
By now we were so discussed that we cancelled all the rooms we had booked and informed the representative that we would never use this hotel chain again
One would expect that any good representative would at least state the fact that they were sorry and offer to pass you on to a supervisor but all we were offered was the chance to hire a car from the site.
We pointed out that if we needed a car your company would be the last place we would hire it from to which this lady replied “well congratulations you qualify for a one hundred dollar discount on your next booking can I transfer you to our offers department.
With this we just gave up and hung up the phone vowing never to stay at any hotel owned by this chain and to actively encourage all others to avoid staying at any hotel owned by this group.

The three hundred percent increase in room rates is inexcusable no matter what weekend it may be and is just plain rip of tactics by this group.
It would seem that they place profit before customers by charging exorbitant fees while employing cheap under trained staff from another country.
Please book with any other company until these folks change the pricing policy and bring jobs back to the USA, perhaps then we will get good service.
