We stayed three nights in the Southgate, and really enjoyed our time there, especially if looking at the price we paid compared to other hotels/inns in the area. The distance to Yosemite is ok, as the southern part of the park was surprisingly beautiful (Sequoia trees, Wawona). If you're driving to the Yosemite Valley only, it may be a bit too far, but still manageable.
Room was very spacious and looked like being partly remodeled. Equipped with microwave, fridge, coffee maker... everything we needed. If eating at the local Italian, they even provide you a $10 discount.
They also got an elevator which is a plus, although it's one of the slowest one I've ever experienced.
Cons: Breakfast misses some of the 'essentials' like peanut butter, cream cheese or oatmeal. Still lots of other stuff available, so you don't have to start your day hungry. The fitness room is not very attractive: very small, no tv and everyone in the lobby can watch you exercise. Pool area looks very nice, unfortunately no sun there in the afternoon.
Still, I recommend the hotel, as you will be spending your time mostly in the park and not in the fitness room/pool.
