Best Spencer Steak. The meat is all cooked over and oak flame. This place has been around for many many years. Make sure you call ahead for a reservation as the wait times are LONG!

With out a question this is the best steak I have had anywhere including the fancy and expensive steak houses in most large cities. As others have said the building is quite funky/country but it is the real thing. Get over the truck filled parking lot and the building's outside appearance and get inside for real food.

We went for dinner on a Tuesday night and had reservations. We were seated within 15 minutes after our reservation. If you have to wait, there is a large bar in the middle of the building and it is probably filled with locals. But it is a comfortable place to wait, have a drink and wait for you party to be seated.

As others have said it the restaurant has a "family style" feel to it and the tables are very close together. This is certainly not the place for a romantic dinner or proposal. This is a place to get stuffed.

Most of the steak entrees are a complete meal starting with a great relish tray, salsa and yes, crackers and commercial bread sticks in little paper wrappers....yuck. I am not sure why this little cracker basket is part of the meal but perhaps while you are waiting for the well done steak to be cooked (the menu says well done may take 40 minutes) you can pass time getting the crackers out of the little cellophane wrappers. Next you get a salad with extremely fresh vegetables.Your steak comes with a huge baked potato or fries and a basket of garlic bread. Your meal ends with ice creme and coffee. All of it is included in the price and it is all delicious.

We paid $28 for an 18 ounce Spencer steak and all that comes with it. We split the dish between the two of us so there was an "split charge" of $3.00 or $7.50. $7.50 included two of everything other than the steak.

In addition to the great food it is a real fun experience at a great price!

We had reservations with locals...still had a wait. My husband & I shared a meal & still brought home left overs. We went with friends, meet some new friends. The tables are kind of family style. You can interact with others if you choose too. Kind of noisy, old school steak house & bar. But the food is tops.

We went here when local friends recommended this place. We were coming on a Monday so weren't expecting such a crowd, but it was obvious this is quite the hot spot to be. Our wait was a little over an hour but it was so very worth it. The steaks were amazing as was all the food we tried here. For someone wanting a taste of Santa Maria cooking, this is the place to go. You won't regret it.

We had the same experience as others with reservations and waiting. Very plain looking building and old style tables and chairs, but food is fantastic and the waiter could not have been nicer and competent. We all had the spencer steak and is a must to try when you visit. Will definitely visit again when on the Central Coast.
