I've been going to Rudy's even before it was Rudy's.
Once it became Rudy's there were several changes made that were significant:
---They added a retractable roof (reminds me of the Minute Maid Stadium in Houston) that allows them to roll back about 20/25% of the roof on a beautiful Newport Beach day. Sit in the sun, just a couple of blocks from the beach and enjoy your meal and beverages.
---They added more TV screens.
---Most importantly, they improved the food menu. Most sports bars aren't usually known for their menu but Rudy's has, IMO, pretty good food.
Some of my favorites are:
The Kobe Burger. They will cook it to your likeing. They also offer 3 Kobe sliders as an appetizer but, personally, I prefer the full burger which comes with your choice of fries or home made kettle chips along with cole slaw.
I love the tuna and cheddar sandwich (aka as a tuna melt). Comes out with crispy grilled bread, creamy tuna and nice cheddar cheese. Plus it's BIG!
I also like breakfasts here. The last time I was in there for breakfast I had the French Toast that came out with sliced bananas, blueberries and sliced strawberries, syrup on the side so that you can apply what you like. It was terrific! They used to do breakfast everyday but, apparently, they only do breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays now. A bit disappointing to me but, still, worth the trip.
Service is generally good.
Another thing that Rudy's does that I think is fun: when Monday Night Football is on, they have featured 'Specials' that feature something that is related to the teams that are playing that evening. For instance, let's say Kansas City is playing Baltimore: they may offer Kansas City style ribs and Maryland Crabcakes as specials. I don't know if they intend to that again this year but I hope they do----it was a lot of fun.
They also have their own parking lot but if it's full there is parking on the streets around the location. Just check the parking signs/meters. Most parking meters in Newport Beach are free after 6:00 PM but be sure to check.
