I've stayed at the BB Club numerous times -- sometimes it's great, other times there's a bunch of things not up to par......my last stay was for one night, Jan. 30. I paid the Resort Perks rate which includes breakfast and valet overnight parking. At check-in I asked if the room was available for a 2nd night in case I wanted to stay. I was told I'd get a phone call that night......it never came.

Although this hotel is nice and the rooms comfortable, on this occasion the carpet in my room had a big stain and was damp. There was no "do not disturb" sign so the hotel staff started knocking on my door first thing in the morning when I had wanted to relax and sleep in. I was so irritated I didn't pursue finding out if the room was available a 2nd night......

Finally, make sure you ask for the itemized breakdown of your final bill and do not accept a copy of just the total charges. Every time I've stayed here under a "perks" program, I have been charged either for breakfast ($20+) and/or valet parking ($26) .....

We spent one luxurious night at BBC, but we fell in love with the food (room service!), roomy bathtub, and comfy bed. We love the bed so much that we even ordered the same one for ourselves!!

The Balboa Bay Club is an extremely elegant and luxurious hotel, that is definately of 5 star quality. Stayed here for two nights, and absolutely loved it. The pool is nice and quiet, and well layed out. The rooms are heavenly. Very comfy beds, marble and gorgeous bathrooms, and with personal touches that make it even better. Staff is very friendly, and the food is excellent as well at The First Cabin Restaurant. Concierge was extremely helpful, and booked dinner, and contacted our room to confirm reservations. Overall, if you are coming to Newport Beach, the Balboa Bay Club is a must. It is very fancy, and perfect for all travelers.

It all started with a leak in room from air conditioning on the roof, supposedly no rooms, put us in a small staff room and were going to leave us there if I hadn't complained. There then conceded they would move us first thing in the morning. The morning came and they said we couldn't move until 3 pm (normal checkin)..didn't matter we were there for a wedding that started at 4 pm and that used all their banquet rooms and took dozens of room. We were there for a wedding and decided to make a weekend of it. What a mistake. Consierge worthless. Staff smile and do nothing. Totally concerned with members of the club and not hotel guests. No casual dining for Sunday breakfast ($30 minimum brunch entree only), unless you are a member. I asked for some accomodation because we slept in a queen size room instead of a king and had to move twice, they said no problem, but had to ask two more times and got a whole $45 off. By the way, I am still waiting for an apology from anyone in authority.
If you don't own a yacht ... stay anywhere else.

Live in San Diego and needed place for weekend trip to Disneyland and South Coast Plaza. We have stayed at the Four Seasons on prior trips to Newport which is now Islands Hotel but we wanted to try something new.
Arrived at hotel around 11 pm and said they didn't have anything available. I had just talked to someone at front desk 2 hours ago before we had left San Diego and they informed me that the hotel was at 50% and there were lots of rooms available. The only positive part of this review will be the mangager on duty that Thursday night. He was very helpful and got us a room right away so my three year old didn't have to sit in the lobby too long.
The breakfast that is included is only really a $40 credit. That doesn't go to far when the orange juice was at least $7. The breakfast was ok, not fantastic. The rooms are very nice and clean. The service was average at best. I don't remember what we paid but it was right around $300 per night. If they made some changes to the level of service, restaurant and bar the hotel would be great for a quick stay.

When dropping off a guest at this club/hotel after dinner, and not staying long enough to park the car, the security guard yelled at our entire party because we had stopped the car in an unmarked space for under five minutes--he wanted us to valet the car even though we were just leaving. After he yelled at us a second time, and refused to even have a conversation about it, we moved the car to park on the highway (!) at his suggestion, but were threatened with police intervention upon entering the property again to spend 5 minutes thanking the guest (standing right there) for dinner.

We'd had a drink in the bar earlier in the night and paid for valet during our earlier 90-minute stay -- and the hotel guest was paying the exhorbitant full rack rate.

There are hundreds of other places you can stay in this area where you can be treated with respect, for the same money or even less. I would recommend any one of those.

We stayed here over a long weekend, with fantastic weather. This hotel you might miss driving down the coast highway, but it's a great location, right on the water. Good rooms, service, with a great romantic bar right on the waterway. Live piano music in the evenings. Restaurant is quiet and romantic. It really is a prime location. The concierge Heidi was a great asset!!
