“Nice property, no restaurants for the moment”
Reviewed January 21, 2014

Apparently an old Four Seasons property no longer part of the chain. Nice rooms, good fitness center, pretty but small pool. Service very good. However, they are redoing their restaurants, so you are limited to room service, some buffet on a guest floor, or going offsite. The latter is probably the best option, since the Island Hotel is adjacent to Fashion Island, a very large shopping center which has options all the way from food court to fine dining.

Not sure what to make of this hotel. Very reasonably priced but the rooms were quite basic. With the beachside location has a bit of a resort feel. Also, really suitable for a shopaholic - given the nearby complex! The staff were friendly and helpful but unless you have a reason to be in Newport it is miles from anywhere else in LA!

This was our 6th trip here for a local stay-cation. You can't beat the location, minutes away from the beaches, shops and amazing restaurants. The rooms are Extremely Clean and the beds are to die for. Comfy and the sheets are so very soft. Love this property. The food is always good and the customer service is excellent. We had a message on our phone when we came back from dinner. We called and to our surprise, the staff had arranged a delivery of a big bottle of Evian water and fresh crisp apples for our enjoyment along with a nice not thanking us for our many visits to the property. Great customer service, The property is under going a huge renovation in the restaurant and bar area. They gave us a time frame of 6 months till completed.
Can't wait to go back and see the new Island Resort improvements. I would recommend this property to anyone. Awesome.....

We stayed for 6 nights in a corner 2 room suite. We also added the Island Club for $20/day. The room was impeccable e and the maid service waspunctual and complete. The room service was a bit Pricey but well prepared. Valet parking was $32/day. However the we're prompt and courteous. The. Pool area was clean and resor t like even though Fashion Island mall was just across the street.

The Island Club was well worth the price. The Internet was free, continental breakfast ( They had a Jura coffee maker with decaf expresso beans. Regular coffee with the decaf expresso beans was wonderful). Evenings had beer, wine and light food. The view of Balboa island and isle was great.

They were remodeling the bar and restaurant area. There was a buffet on the second floor , but we did not use it. Too many nice restaurants in the area. Remodeling should be complete in April.

This was our second stay and we will be back.

Usually i stay in this hotel in summer, this is the first time for me in winter.
The hotel is amazing , very relaxing with best location just near the fashion island shopping mall.
The staff are very friendly and helpfull, the coastal view suite is breathtaking, food is excellant.
i do acknowledge that the hotel is bit dated and can use a good renovation.
i just like it in all cases and will come again soon.

Room Tip: coastal suite high floors

We stayed here for the BCS Championship game in January..Very nice hotel...they had the dining/bar area under renovation (wil be for 4-6 months from this date)...so no where to go to have a drink..small bar is set up off the check in area...not really very functional..probably driving them crazy too....
They do not have a dedicated concierge service...just anyone who answers the phone...I had a little trouble with this. No real organization in this area...dinner reservations scheduled for the wrong day. no return phone calls to confirm reservations...no real understanding of what I was looking for...so IF you like using a concierge that knows a lot about the area...this is not a strong suit of this hotel..
Beautiful outside fireplace area...again, no one to wait on you for drinks...
Would I stay here again? Yes....the staff was very nice and tried to be helpful...rooms comfortable too...

Room Tip: you want to stay above the 2nd floor for sure...and if you want a nice view, you need to not be on t...

Stayed here for 4 days and it was great. Excellent location around good restaurants and shopping. All of the hotel staff was excellent from check-in to valet. High-end place so no self-parking and internet, etc costs extra- but overall great place. Very comfy beds and no question on cleanliness.
