My husband and I have stayed at the Fairmont Newport Beach numerous times. It's just a stone's throw from the airport and less than a 10 minute drive to Corona Del Mar, where we spend most of our time when in Orange County.

For a Fairmont Hotel, the rates are incredibly reasonable. That being said, it's nothing like it's counterpart in San Francisco, so don't expect anything spectacular. The pool area is average. It would have been nice to have had a server checking in more than every half hour... we had to go down to the bar to order drinks and had to call someone to replenish the towels.

If all you need is a comfortable bed, a dependable hotel, and convenient access to the Newport Beach community, then choose this hotel. I know that the next time we're down in the OC, we'll be staying here again.

I liked this hotel. It wasn't bang out brilliant in your face but there was enough charm and help by the bell boys and front desk that put it above the cookie cutter experience. The suite was good and housekeeping was helpful and did a good job. The front desk guy actually suggested that I join the fairmont presidents club to get free Internet which I thought was a good deal. The pool was also nice and warm with the whirlpool actually being hot! Nice on a cool day. Breakfast was good but not great,I do think they can have some more variety there for the amount charged. But the a la carte menu seemed real good. But I think the lady at the concierge desk is the one who really puts some pizazz into the place. She was a really warm personality and seemed very human and enjoyed being there and wanting to help and go out of her way to make suggestions. Definitely a big plus for a good hotel. Check in and check out were both for very quick for us.
The only negative I would say is the hotel's surroundings which as other people have pointed out doesn't really have anything within walking distance....
A good hotel nevertheless

The first impression of the hotel was great! Valet was attentive, helpful and fast. I was checked into my room in less than 3 minutes. The front desk was incredibly helpful and friendly. The room was beautiful, clean and up to the Fairmont standard.

We had a morning breakfast meeting in the lounge downstairs and was incredibly disappointed. The service was below par to say the least. The server offer me coffee and tried to take my order before the rest of my party arrived. When they did arrive, we weren't offered coffee or reapproached for 30 minutes. The restaurant wasn't busy and at that time, there was only 4 tables in the restaurant. The server seemed very inexperienced and borderline rude.

And this is why I gave 3 out of 4 stars.

Stayed here for business. The rooms are fine, clean and all the usual bits and pieces. You have to pay for Internet etc, but sadly this is standard now. Breakfast buffet was very average, although had a couple of nice lunches. The most disappointing thing about the hotel was the service. Check in and out was slow. One person on the front desk is not enough for a busy hotel and business guests, who by definition are in a hurry, don't want to hange around and for whom the visit is transactional. Secondly the bar service needs to be improved. One night the batman was simply rude, with his body turned away from customers as he chatted to staff. He was abrupt and rude and so I complained to his manager. The manager was apologetic and gave us our drinks for free - thank you, but we shouldn't need to experience stuff like that when we are paying guests.
Overall, the hotel is fine, but why would I come back, when the service is mixed and I can get better elsewhere?

We stayed here for 2 nights. The room was nicely decorated and the checkin was smooth. The bed was soft but we couldn't sleep both nights. Our neighbor was very noisy, we learned everything about their life as they talked constantly, even at 2 am in the morning! I guess the walls of our room must be very thin. Other complaints include $7/bottle of water, no safe in the room and a mandatory valet parking of $28 (unless you don't plan to have a car in LA)! This is Orang county with lots of space, why doesn't the hotel have space for self-parking is a big mystery. It is unlikely that we will stay here again.

We just spent 4 nights at this hotel and had a lovely experience. It is in a quiet area, that is central to many of the sights, which we really liked, but we were able to walk to restaurants across the street and there were many choices within a short driving distance. There is only valet parking as has been widely reported and if you have done any research would know ahead of time. They were friendly and courteous whenever we were picking up or dropping off the car. We never had to stop at the front desk as our keys were waiting for us at the valet when we first arrived.

Our room on the 10th floor was clean, well appointed and quiet. As others have pointed out not really a family hotel, although there was lots of kids running around. The pool is small, but nice. I used the Amadeus spa and the service was great. Had a couple meals in the restaurant and enjoyed both the meals and the service.

After reading some of the reviews we had been hesitant to book, but am so glad we did and would not hesitate to return.

Our family of 4 stayed here to check out Newport. This is a business oriented hotel which lacks charm. We love staying at Fairmont's and this one was disappointing. There wasn't anything about the hotel to make it memorable. It is situated by an airport and there is nothing of interest surrounding it. There isn't even a restaurant or coffee house within walking distance. There is a nice pool with cabanas and a hot tub. My husband said the hot tub wasn't very clean. The valets were very friendly and courteous but it cost $29 to park it each night. The rooms were fairly comfortable but be aware there are planes flying from 7:00am to sunset. You will hear these planes even though the hotel is fairly quiet. There are no fans in the washroom so the bathroom has a moldy smell. Sadly,I would not stay at the particular Fairmont again.
