Spent 3 days here on our journey through California. Couldn't have been happier, the hotel looks as if its had a recent makeover so everything was clean and new looking. The large family pool was great and there was plenty of sun loungers to spend the day on. The food from the bar area was lovely and relaxing sitting outside round the fire wall. We really enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again.

We have stayed at the Hyatt in Newport Beach on many occasions and have always experienced excellent service from everyone there. Its quite quiet during the week which means you get exclusive use of the pools and bar and restaurants but at the weekends its often very busy with weddings and jazz fesivals, all of which adds to the ambience. Food is plentiful and good quality. Parking can be expensive but if you are on a long stay the management may waive the parking fees, especially if you are making use of their facilities. There are free, regular shutlle busses to Fashion Island and South Coast Plaza. Its in an excellent position too, with Disney, Laguna, Balboa Island and Huntington Beach all close by. Like anywhere int he US a car is a must.

Room Tip: Aim for a room in the Main Building or the Lido.

We travelled from the UK and spent 9 happy nights at the Hyatt which was a perfect base for exploring Balboa Island, shopping at Fashion Island or heading out onto the Pacific Highway.

Our first room was in the Bay block next to the family swimming pool. We only moved as there was no room safe. We relocated to the Catalina building to a much bigger room with a balcony, which suited our family of 4 better. I think we would have been squashed for 9 days in the initial room, particularly as there is no separate bathroom. Both rooms were finished to a high modern standard.

We booked through Virgin Holidays in the UK and enjoyed complimentary parking, no resort fee, free wi-fi and continental breakfast. Excellent!

The family pool was fantastic. Only busy at the weekend and the children loved the water slide and water guns. There was also a small mini golf area and ping pong table around this pool. Elsewhere, there is a large outdoor chess board and shuffle board. We were made to feel very welcome. Thanks to Felix in the restaurant too. The light bites in the bar area were reasonably priced for a hotel. There is a separate Children's Menu with a good range of affordable and healthy meals. Children receive a drinks container on arrival which they can get topped up with free drinks throughout their stay. Ice lollies are also handed out to the children and on the weekends there is someone making balloon models for the children. In all, welcome touches which make families feel very welcome in a business/conference hotel.

A walk to Balboa Island is a must - don't be put off by crossing the Pacific Highway on foot. Just use the crossings. The walk was about 15 minutes - up the hill on Jamboree Road and across the Highway.

Finally, there was a Summer Concert one evening and despite our room being next to the concert we were not disturbed at all. There is plenty of car parking and in our opinion, was a reasonable walk away.

Room Tip: Catalina Building rooms had a balcony and considerably more space than the Bay motel style rooms.

What a great way to end the summer! The remodel changed the hotel dramatically. All upgrades were done first class! We had 2 rooms in the Lido Building. The pool in that area still needs to be redone, broken tiles everywhere, however that didn't change our views of the grounds. We spent the day in the big pool where the kids could enjoy the water slide and water area. The pool service was excellent, food was alittle pricey (but it was our last hurrah for summer) however, delicious. Rooms were big and very comfortable.

Our Favorite place for a STAYCATION!

Room Tip: Lido Tower is great. Views of the bay and golf course.......sunset is stunning!

Awesome hotel... beautiful grounds, several pools, walking distance to arena. Clean and nice rooms. Onsite restaurant was amazing! Would be willing to stay there again. If not for my car experience I would have rated much higher.

One problem was the Hertz car rental on the property grounds. Would not advise booking a car here. Renee Murtaza was rude She was late, could not find the car, finally gave me a car and said go, realized later the car had only a 1/4th tank of gas and had garbage in it. When I mentioned it to Renee that afternoon when I returned she was extreemly rude but said she knew the car didn't have gas and would cover the gas. I was shocked she KNEW the car didn't have gas and let me take it without telling me. Wow! I had to put gas in the car to drive it so when I returned it the next day before leaving town she had the reservation wrong and said I was supposed to drop ot off at the LAX airport and then wouldn't reimburse me for the gas! Then she was really rude about everything. Not sure what happend to good customer service but very disappointed.
