“Beatiful property, great breakfast, warm pools”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

We stayed a long weekend in late May when it was still a little cool out but they keep the pool water temp about 80! We stayed in the Lido section, which was farthest away from the lobby and the only pool without a bar....otherwise, the room and bed were great. The only meals we ate on side were breakfast and it was great....try the chicken sausage! We rented bikes one morning for $9 and rode down to the water.....great idea if you have some free time. Water is also within walking distance.

Hello Lori, it was really great reading your wonderful comments regarding your stay at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach. It sounds like you had a great idea in taking the bikes down to the beach, I would also recomend a ride around Back Bay. The bay is home to plenty of wildlife, and some of the birds can only be found in this specific area. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed breakfast in our new restaurant SHOR American Seafood Grill. If you are able to visit us again I would highly reccomend having dinner at SHOR. The restaurant proudly offers food options that are good for the guest, good for the community and good for the planet and food from natural, local and sustainable sources. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Thank you - Scott H

We stayed here over Memorial Day weekend for a reunion. The grounds were very nice and the renovations they made were great. My largest complaint is with our room. We had a double room with a nice view of the bay. Only a few rooms have a view of the bay which is nice but since they are the only rooms on the road they are somewhat noisy. The beds in the room are SO small. My husband and I barely both fit into the same bed. My largest complaint is with the bathroom doors...sounds silly but it was such an annoying part of our stay. The new doors they put on the bathroom are more like shutters so every time you go in the bathroom, close the "doors" and turn on the lights it is basically like turning on the lights in the whole room. This is an issue for us because I tend to get up earlier than my husband or have to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and there is no privacy and the lights of the bathroom literally work for the whole room even with the "doors" closed. The staff was great and all the events they put on were wonderful. There are three amazing pools and the workout facilities were busy but very nice. The location is an easy bike ride to balboa or fashion island...both great locations! Despite our rooms the hotel was wonderful.

We got to experience the Hyatt Newporter for the first time during a little stay-cation and loved it! We're always working opposite hours so its hard to get a weekend away but this was the perfect solution. We actually felt like we were on vacation somewhere tropical!

The hotel was just completing renovations so the larger pool wasn't open, but the pool that our room overlooked was just fine, plus it offered complimentary bed-type loungers.

Our room was very comfortable and newly renovated. The beds were nice and linens were crisp and soft. The bathroom even had great products in it too and there were robes and a safe in the closet. The only thing the room was missing were hooks to hang your used towels.

Even though its in our own backyard, we would gladly enjoy another stay-cation here!

It is so wonderful to hear that you had such a perfect Stay-cation! We are happy to know that you were able to experience our upgraded pool and rooms. Since you are so close by we really hope that you will be able to come back soon and possibly enjoy a Friday night during our Summer Concert Series which is starting 6/21/13. Or you can just come in for another quick escape, and enjoy our golf course on a beautiful summer afternoon, and then go for a bike ride around back bay while watching the sunset. Either way we look forward to having you come back. Thank you - Scott H

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach over Memorial Day Weekend! We had originally "applied" for an upgrade to a suite for an extra fee (so the kids could sleep in a separate room). Upon arriving, we were told that we got the suite, however when we arrived at the room, the suite was really just an extra board room, with a conference table (meaning the kids would still be in our room). We called and told them our situation and we're hoping to move to a different suite, but expecting to move back to a regular room. To our surprise, they upgraded us to another suite with our OWN private pool (not huge, but private - probably 10x16 feet). The room was great as well, with full kitchenette, living room (pullout sofa for kids) and private bedroom.

The grounds were very nice and the public pools were well appointed. Plenty of activities for kids, but we didn't get to partake in those much. The staff was great, being very attentive and always using our names. Would definitely return.

In spite of not quite finished renovations, this resort hotel is ideal for a large group or individual stay with lovely public spaces, meeting rooms and guest rooms. It's a nice walk to charming Little Balboa Island and free shuttle ride from Fashion Island shops and John Wayne Airport.

Room Tip: Catalina, 2nd floor with balcony overlooking pool, but private too.

SERIOUSLY??? How in gods name did Hyatt Regency allow this former motel to be branded a Hyatt Regency? Okay, the staff is pretty nice, I'll give you that, but it is beyond shocking that that this hotel costs the same amount as the Island Hotel nearby. As you walk to your room it starts getting grimmer and grimmer until you are led to a courtyard that looks a two-level strip motel. The rooms are just fine -- okay and clean enough -- but you can do so much better nearby.

Room Tip: Stay in the main building, or better yet, another hotel.

We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach. It was very disappointing to hear that you did not enjoy your stay. However we will keep improving in the hope you will give us another try and we can change your opinion of our hotel. The Hyatt Regency Newport Beach is situated on 26 beautifully landscaped acres which we feel really separates us from a tower hotel. Although you may have to take a little walk to your room, you can usually see several varieties of palm tree and many different flowers and plants. We also have 3 distinct pools to cater to different needs, the Oasis Pool is where you can bring your kids to go on our new waterslide, the Indulge Pool to relax and try one of our delicious cocktails, or our Tranquility Pool where you just kick back and relax in peace and quiet. We also have an executive golf course on site, beach volleyball court and shuffle board to keep you busy if you enjoy the outdoors. These are just a few of the amenities that we offer and we feel this takes us above and beyond many local properties. We hope that you will give us the chance to show you the beauty of our property. Thank you – Scott H

After our son's graduation in north LA, we all migrated to Newport Beach for some R and R together. The Hyatt is newly renovated, with some ongoing refurbishment. I suggest staying in the Balboa or Catalina sections. We stayed in the Lido...it's okay, but a few extra steps away from the main pool where we hung out. Great little golf course, pools, shuffleboard, and ping pong. The staff is outstanding. We had a little trouble with noise one morning as workers were upgrading carpet outside on the stairs. It would have bee a big problem had the staff not jumped in. Greg in the front desk was terrific, helping stop the workers until later in the day. We liked the beauty of the place, its proximity to Balboa Island, great restaurants in Newport and Corona Del Mar. We didn't try the restaurant at the hotel because we like what we call "food safaris". Jonathan at the front desk was great too. The doormen were thoughtful, and helpful. And Jeremy in guest services outdid himself. We loved it.

Room Tip: Balboa and Catalina areas look better than Lido
