“Nice dinner”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

Small restaurant recommended by our hotel. Good seafood- especially the salmon chowder and halibut. Would come back if in the area again.

“Pleasantly Surprising”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

Visited with a friend based on good ratings here on TripAdvisor. Wasn't disappointed in the slightest. We arrived a little hopeful as it was full, and it was a much smaller place than I had imagined. The only criticism was that no one greeted us or offered to seat us: I wandered up to the bar to enquire. A few other parties had a similar problem. I put this down to them having a very large party of about 20+ people, as the staff were very helpful throughout and service was great. We were lucky and got the last two seats, and were seated immediately, with bread and oil (which was very good) set down just as quickly.

The menu choice was pretty good, and strayed further than the usual fare for 'beachfront' restaurants. We had the meatballs and mussels/clams to start. Big portions and either could be split for a good intro. Meatballs were my choice: good and a little spicy, in a slightly thick sauce, which could be compared to gravy. Very tasty, but quite filling. The mussels were also said to be excellent.

For main course, I had the halibut with mushroom sauce. I've not had halibut before, so wasn't sure what to expect. It was a little less fishy than I was expecting (the server had alluded to this already), but it was cooked well, and the sauce was great. The mash and grilled vegetables were also good.

3 drinks, two appetisers, two main courses for almost $100 is quite reasonable for the area, I would say.

Well deserved reviews from this cite little place; would definitely go back.

“What a gem!”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

The first time my GPS did something right! Feeling like a steak on a visit to Newport Beach, we did a quick search on our gps .... With zero faith, we followed directions and found this wonderful gem. Sol Grill, a quaint and romantic restaurant right near the pier, with attentive and extremely welcoming staff offered a varied menu and delivered. The rack of lamb was tasty, tender and plentiful. Veggies were awesome too. I didn't get to taste the sangria, but that's a good excuse to return.

“Small, friendly, good food”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Only problem is getting a table if you haven't reserved. Tiny little restaurant, food is great - good portions, reasonable price especially for prime location by Newport Pier. Live music nights are fun, service is friendly and attentive.
