Shared cocktails and appetizers with a colleague, and it was good enough to go back two days in a row. $5 appetizers and drinks from 4:30 to 6:30pm daily. We sat at the bar and had great service.

Bot of us had martinis.........mine vodka, and my colleague likes gin. Excellent. Had Kettle One
the first night, and it was excellent. On the special it is Tito's...just OK. The gin is Bombay....top of the line.
We each had four appetizers the first night. That's a bit over the top, as the portions are generous. Wagyu beef sliders, mahi mahi tacos, beef short rib tacos, tempura crusted ahi roll, ebi roll, and lobster potstickers. Between the two of us we tried them all. Everything was excellent. This is not cheap bar food, it is high end tapas, done very well. I have to say, for my taste, the ahi roll, and lobster potstickers were my favorites............but, the beef sliders were very good...........OK, it was all very good. And, the service was excellent both nights.

They have a Roy's in Sarasota, so this will be one of the Friday night go-to places for me.

Went to Roy's in August expecting another wonderful meal. The food was lackluster with no flavor and just average, not the flavors one has come to expect from Roy's. Check was just under $400 for 4 people.

We love going to Roy's in Pebble Beach and in Hawaii. So we were looking forward to trying this one while on vacation in Newport Beach. We asked for a quiet table and were placed in a back corner. Our table was flanked by art with some issues: On one side, the "canvas" was peeling up from its backing, despite the duct tape at its corner. On the other wall were two paintings of palm trees, one of which had been knocked crooked, leaving multiple scratches in the wall.

With regard to ambiance generally, however, the entire restaurant felt enclosed and dark -- not tropical and airy. While there we noticed some outdoor tables. I'd recommend asking for one of them.

Our food was good, not great. Service was only okay. At least when the coffee they served was cold, they brought us more and took it off our bill.

In all, we enjoyed our outing to Roy's, but we won't be going back.

The original Hawaiian fusion restaurant with some of the best seafood around. Always inventively prepared with an Asian twist, and excellent wine list, attentive service and unbeatable chocolate lava cake. Unfailingly good.
