“great flavors”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

we enjoyed the view of the boat harbor while we ate dinner. The Mexican food was well flavored and we enjoyed experiencing some new entrees. Service was very good, a bit on the slow side but we did not care since we were there to relax. Really liked the red onion rings appetizer. Strong flavors with crumbled cheese on top.

“So so amazing!”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

We loved our lunch here so much that we returned for dinner a few days later, as our vacation ended. Noise level at night was very loud, but that did not affect anything else. Our servers both times were very attentive and knowledgeable, and fun! The food was excellent.
Special features: fit for foodies, good for groups, great for outdoor dining, bar scene, kid-friendly, scenic view, great for lunch. We asked our server and chef/owner Deborah Schneider was there working that day. She came to our table and talked to us for a long time. We bought cookbooks and she signed them. I think this was the best food we've had in a VERY long time.

“Sunday Ritual”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

We Love our Sunday brunch, so finding that special place and marking it as our weekly ritual was no easy task. Sol's location, service and consistent food did the trick. We have tried nearly everything on the menu but usually repeat our favorites such as the Baja Shrimp Cocktail or the fresh ceviche! Don't forget to try their infamous Bulldog, very tasty! Staff is fabulous, from the valets who always remember our name to the servers and hostesses, all very nice and each adorning a smile.

“Mexican Food @ it's BEST”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

If you are the traveler from far away (Europe or Canada) enjoying you PCH drive from San Francisco to San Diego stop here for lunch. If your next hotel is booked in Encinitas, Solana Beach or La Jolla, stop here for dinner. Do not imagine your typical roadside or gas station Mexican (fast) food. No, no, no... It is located in the affluent Newport Beach, just beside posh Balboa island and it is upper middle class but surprisingly reasonably priced. The large windows offers a magnificent view at sunset over the marina full of toys for rich people. What about the food? Very fresh, very good. Most traditional Mexican dishes have a high degree of sophistication rarely seen. What about the service? It is quite good. If you are a traveler from Europe do not hesitate to ask about the dishes. You will be explained all details, receive excellent recommendations, maybe in your own language. Maybe there are better Mexican restaurants somewhere else in California or more luxurious restaurants in Newport Beach but I warmly recommend you to eat here. Last but not least... If your travel in your rental convertible full of luggage on the back seat the free valet parking service comes really handy. And for the European traveller ... don't forget to tip. 15...20% before tax at restaurant and $1 or 2 valet parking.
