“Very Nice Restaurant”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

We ate at Juliette's recently and found it to be really nice. The food was very good, the service was very good. It isn't fancy, but that's fine. The menu is pretty broad, so there is something for everyone. The only down side is that the noise level in the restaurant is pretty loud, so it can be difficult to have a good conversation. Even with that, I'd highly recommend it!

“Very good food, lousy dining room”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

We had eaten here many times when they first opened but haven’t been back in awhile. Now I remember why. Although the food is generally very good and service is excellent, the dining room acoustics, uncomfortable chairs, and close proximity to other diners makes this place difficult to enjoy. If you’re looking for quiet dinner conversation with the one you love this definitely is not the place. The room is a din of noise when even half full. When crowded it is uncomfortably loud and detracts from what is pretty darn good food (though apparently the cook staff is afraid to use salt and pepper as every dish I have ever had here requires a little more of both).

The menu is fairly meat-centric with a few options for the vegetarian or seafood fan. Though the website states the menu is apt to change, even after a year away we found pretty much the same menu as before (they traded out the octopus for squid and maybe added one new entrée but other than changing the cheeses around bit they aren’t making many new, daring moves here). Not sure why they would serve faro risotto in the summer (it is quite good but a bit heavy for our warm summer nights). As for the wines - the place advertises itself as kitchen and wine merchant – I find the wine list wanting and out of balance. There are few, if any, decent whites and the roses are lousy but they do offer some very good pinot noirs. Maybe because the menu leans on meat a lot the wine list reflects better reds than whites (and seriously its summer, find a decent rose).

Skip the roasted beet salad. It comes with a hard goat cheese and while that is a different take on the more typical chevre it just doesn’t work. The dressing is a pomegranate reduction and it doesn’t bring anything to the dish either.

The ocean trout salad was excellent, very flavorful and an ample enough portion for two of us to split. It is served atop tatsoi, which is an Asian green in the brassica family (cabbage. mustard, etc) with a spinach-like texture but it needed black pepper to bring it all together. We also had the squid with fingerling potatoes and it was fantastic (though it also needed black pepper). As always the French fries were very food served with a harrissa aioli and house made ketchup.

The food and service are very good but it may take another year before I can sit in this din of noise again. Maybe I will go sooner with someone I don’t want to talk to…….

“Pork Belly sandwich was excellent”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

Ever had a Lee's Sandwich (Vietnamese style sandwich)? Well it was 10 times better than that and I love Lee's Sandwiches. I thought pork belly would have a 1/2 inch layer of fat on top of the meat, but there was no visible fat...I'm sure the fat is there somewhere...I was shocked that it tasted so good. One of my most memorable sandwiches. The grilled chicken sandwich was very good. They just opened up the outside patio...nice ocean breeze coming through.

“Hidden Gem in Strip Mall”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

Met some foody friends for dinner - started with an excellent Charcuterie appetizer and tasty martinis. Bar was noisy but fun vibe - is a pretty small place, reservations are a good idea. We had a table in back that was semi-quiet. Probably not the right place if you are looking for a quiet romantic dinner. Entrees were first class - we enjoyed the Duck, Kurobuta Pork, Lamb and Fish stew....tasting off everyone's plates. Recommend you get an order of fries with housemade ketchup and aioli to share also. Service was excellent - even on a very busy night. $15 corkage seemed reasonable/wine list was excellent also.

“Excellent bistro style”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

Although not particularly French, there is a definitely a bistro flavor to this restaurant which replaced Pascal's off Bristol in Newport Beach. We ate there for the first time and enjoyed everything about it. Had reservations and were warmly greeted. Server (Kelsey) was polite, attentive, and knowledgeable. The menu included many interesting dishes and offered both large and small plates, while the wine list was large and more than satisfactory. Not only had the usual 6oz pour but also offered a 3oz pour for those who ordered by the glass and wanted a smaller follow-up. I have only seen that feature once before. Overall a great experience and will definitely be back.
