Easy to get to the Wedge. we biked and there were places to lock the. We wandered around. Beach and sand were great. Not crowded. Great view of the mainland and north side of Balboa.

We have been to the wedge many times through the years. Its always different each time. Somedays its calmer but most days you can watch the surfers enjoy the huge waves. The waves tend to slam the surfers into the sand and it is very dangerous for someone that isnt a seasoned surfer. But what fun to watch! Take a chair and enjoy! And possibly a jacket. It can be a little chilly at times. This is the first place we always want to go when we arrive in Newport Beach. And we go several times during the weeks vacation. FUn! FUn!

As some reviewers noted, there can be times (actually, lots of times) when there's no surfing at The Wedge. Balboa Peninsula sometimes gets surf, sometimes it doesn't. I think it's a function of offshore storms. When it does get surf, the waves come in at an angle, some of them bounce off the jetty then combine with other incoming waves and double in amplitude; so you can have some horrific surf at the Wedge, but not always. If there are no bodysurfers, you can have the consolation of watching boats come and go through the jetty. It's worth a visit.

maybe we were there at the wrong time for surf, but read that this was the best place to watch surfers. the water was like a lake and there was no surfers there for sure. it's a pretty place to go watch boats coming and going.
we road our bikes we rented the length of the beach. enjoyed the beautiful homes along the bike path.
