“A must do when visiting Newport Beach”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

If you are going to Newport Beach and could do one thing it should be a visit to Balboa Island. Stroll the shops on the main street (2 blocks, very do-able), be sure to get a famous Balboa Bar (ice cream bar dipped in chocolate, then rolled in toppings!) walk around the outer edge of the island on the boardwalk sandwiched between charming to gorgeous homes and the bay. This is about 2 miles.

Then take the ferry (with your car) from the island to the peninsula. It's a 5 minute ride where you can get out of you car for some quick pix. Gorgeous views!! Once you exit on the peninsula, make a left onto the main boulevard and head to the tip of the peninsula. You will have gorgeous views of the jetty, Corona del Mar beach across the way. Just take Newport Blvd up to get back to Coast Hwy. Stop off at Newport Pier along the way. If you have time to rent bike, do so after exiting the ferry.

“Newport Beach CA via The Coastal Highway”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

Sometimes I get lost when I am driving, but not in Newport Beach, California. The Coastal Highway, which runs through it, is the main access road to all the places I go. It is even the same highway from my Newport Beach hotel to Fashion Mall, a beautiful park-like collection of shops and eateries. One of the country's tallest Christmas trees was at this mall during the holidays. The shopping center is beautiful with European-style water fountains, a creek with koi fish and park benches for a rest. Shops and restaurants abound with anything from a Cheesecake Factory to a Restoration Hardware, my personal favorite.

The same Coastal Highway is the route to Pelican Hill where the views of the Pacific are magnificent. It's also the path to the several gorgeous, uncrowded sand beaches. One can find their way to Balboa Island or the quaint village shops of Newport Beach. I drove the Coastal Highway to Laguna Beach arts district in 15 minutes. What a relief! Driving the Coastal Highway, I don't end up in a corn field thirty miles from where I'm supposed to be.
