The ocean views were awesome. The beds sooooo comfy. But.. Forget long deep sleeps or after naps. We were woken up 4 out of 7 days but wood chirppers...maint workers. ..leaf blowers etc. Today it started at 8 but most days 9. No coffee on the beautiful patio for us. Coming from the east coast it was already a hassle to acclimate our sleep but the noise sure didnt help.

Room Tip: Don't open your windows for fresh air.

We loved our stay in our 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom villa. The view was awesome. The pools and hottubs relaxing. The staff were above and beyond helpful and friendly. The entire grounds were beautiful and very well maintained. They have a shuttle service that runs all day dropping you off and picking you up at Cystal beach, and 3 shopping areas. We are already making plans to return next year.

The Marriott Newport Coast Resort is a clearly superior facility with an attentive staff.
The rooms are all two bedroom, two bath, apartment-like accomodations. The kitchens are fully equipped and fairly spacious.
Although rated for a maximum of eight guests, each unit probably is more suited to four-six.
The location is on the side of a hill above the Pacific Ocean with views of the coast and the golf course sited below. There are continuing daily cultural and fitness activities and the location is near many varied restaurants, shopping opportunities, tourist attractions, etc.
We've been guests several times and fine the resort suits us ideally.
Guests should be aware that check-in is 4 pm or later and check-out, 10 am.
This is a well maintained resort and offers first class accomodations. The rooms we have occupied have always been clean and well equipped.
For food items, we recommend Trader Joe's market in the nearby Crystal Cove shopping center.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite on a high floor with an ocean view

We have returned to Marriott Newport Coast Vills for about the last six years for a short break from the Canadian winter, especially welcome this winter (2013/2014). The weather in California was exceptional for visitors, although rain and cooler temperatures would be very welcome for the locals as the heat and drought resulted in many difficulties. We have found the weather in past years to be pleasant, with highs normally up to about 70, cool nights, and probably one to two days of cloud and rain per week.

The property is very well maintained and clean, with an overall air of elegant and relaxed luxury. The staff are friendly and responsive to any reasonable request. We have come to know several of the staff, so it's like returning home on our visits.

The villas are one of the main attractions for us. We have adult offspring and they have often accompanied us. Every unit has two bedrooms, each with an ensuite full bathroom. Each unit has either a small patio or balcony with a table and chairs. There is a full kitchen reasonably equipped with utensils, china, and glassware. If you're planning to eat in the villa you can purchase supplies of such things as olive oil and salt and pepper, BBQ sauce etc but for a short stay it might be better to bring enough for your use. There are very efficient outdoor gas grills throughout the property. If you plan to use them it would be best to request a unit in close proximity. Parking is available close to the units with no additional charge. Visitors must park in a central location away from the individual units. WiFi internet is free and works well. While some may consider the villas to be expensive, given that each villa is the equivalent of at least two normal hotel rooms, we find the value to be very good.

There are several recreation areas throughout the property. Near the main building is the most extensive area with two large pools, spas, putting green, and a number of other attractions. The other areas feature primarily a large salt-water pool and spas. While not a problem on most days, they could get very busy during periods when villas are rented by families such as school vacation periods. There are also a number of tennis courts and a fitness centre on the property.

The major shortcoming in our view is the absence of a restaurant on the property. There are many great restaurants in the area, but all, with the possible exception of the Pelican Grill (probably about a twenty-minute walk) require a drive. It would be nice to have a good restaurant dinner on site.

Another small quibble: Despite having been to NCV on several occasions, we almost always have some difficulty finding our unit in the dark. More prominent signage with unit numbers clearly shown, and lit, would be most helpful.

Finally; the area. Lots of good restaurants at every price. Our "go-to's" are Modo Mio in the Crystal Cove Mall, and 59th and Lexington, an outdoor cafe, especially good for lunch at Fashion Island. A particular favourite attraction is The Laguna Beach Playhouse. We've seen a show each year we've visited. Most have been "small" musicals, with one Neil Simon comedy; all professional casts in a small but lovely theater. Well worth the visit!

Room Tip: We were contacted prior to our occupation to determine our preferences. Some considerations for us w...

We just completed a beautiful week at Marriott's NCV. We are Marriott owners, but this time exchanged through II using Shell points. Our 2 bedroom villa in Building 4400 had a beautiful ocean view, and though at first it seemed a bit far from the 3 pools, it was only a 5 minute walk from there to the main pool or the Canyon pool. Everything was up to Marriott Vacation Club standards, and the landscaping, grounds, pools and views were gorgeous.

One night we enjoyed steaks grilled at the terrace next to our building, and another night had a lovely sunset dinner at the Beachcomber Cafe at Crystal Cove. We drove that night, and the $15 parking charge is waived by showing your receipt. We did use the NCV shuttle one day for Crystal Cove, which was convenient and the driver pleasant and helpful, as were all the staff. Sunsets were spectacular from many sites on the property, as well as the cliffs above Laguna Beach and all along the coast. We believe this resort offers something for all ages, and definitely plan to return!

We were lucky enough to exchange a time share week for a stay at this property. It was a beautiful 2 bed and bath villa with a view of the golf course and ocean. Sunrise and sunset on our balcony was wonderful. The property is beautifully maintained with multiple options of pools, hot tubs, exercise rooms, spa, activities or just a place to relax and do nothing. There is also a basketball court, tennis courts, putting green, ping pong, pool tables and lifesize chess/checkers out by the pool. Exercise classes (zumba and yoga) are held several times weekly out by the pool as well. The only negative I can think of is that there is only one small place to order food by the pool and the menu is quite limited. There is a small convenience store and many restaurants within a few miles, so that helps. The facility will give you a ride to many of the local attractions as well as drive you in a golf cart if you are too lazy to walk the facility which is quite large. The staff is quite accomodating and aim to please their guests as much as they can. There also activities for families with children. We felt like we staying at a wonderful resort all week and enjoyed every minute of our stay. Crystal Cove State Park is a hidden gem and within walking distance from the property which we did almost every morning. Sunsets and sunrises were breathtaking either from our balcony, the pool area or the State Park, as well as many other locations. The concierge desk is helpful in planning activities, suggesting restaurants and directions.
Newport Coast Villas is a wonderful place to stay!

As timeshare owners, we always look forward to exchanging into a Marriott-owned location and once again, we have not been disappointed with the high standard of amenities. Newport Coast Villas is a massive complex in the Spanish style (tiled roofs and pastel stucco) which is centrally located to the Pacific Coast Highway and endless sightseeing, shopping, golf, surfing, fishing, hiking trails, local farmers' markets and tour opportunities. That said, for those who want to simply stay on the resort and relax, there are 3 magnificent pool areas, complete with shuffle boards, pool tables, hot tubs, swimming pools and firepit/barbeques. An on-site tuck shop offers basic grocery items and wine/beer/liquor and newspapers, etc. for those last-minute or forgotten items.

The local area includes Balboa Island (shopping & dining); Corona del Mar (Sherman Library and Gardens); Crystal Cove Shopping Centre (shopping & dining); Crystal Cove State Park (tide pools, cottages, dining); Fashion Island (Theatre, shopping); Huntington Beach (beach/surfing, shopping, dining); Irvine Spectrum (shopping centre, dining); Laguna Beach (winery, Playhouse, shopping, dining). Catalina Island is a 1 1/2 hour ferry ride (foot-traffic only) away, leaving from various locations, including Newport Beach. The cost is approximately $75 per person and must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. Hiking trails abound in the area and include Back Bay Loop Trail; Crystal Cove State Park and Laguna Canyon. Surfing beaches are a short drive away in Salt Creek Beach, San Clemente Beach, Huntington Beach/Bolsa Chica and Newport Beach. Local Farmers' Markets can be found at Cororna Del Mar (Saturdays 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.); Laguna Beach (Saturday 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. rain or shine); Irvine University Town Centre (Saturday 8 a.m. - noon rain or shine); Orange County Fairgrounds (Thursday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.).

Our two bedroom villa, although not massive at approximately 1,100 sq. ft., is more than adequate for two couples and offers privacy to both with the master suite on one side of the unit and another smaller master suite on the other side. For those inclined to prepare their own meals, the kitchen is equipped with everything needed to make everything from toast to a full-course meal. The in-unit laundry makes it possible to pack light, even for a longer stay. Our master suite and livingroom face onto the Pacific Ocean (Newport Beach) and the canyon where at night the landscape is lit up at night by the beautiful homes that dot the hillside and valley below.

Well done Marriott; yet another fabulous vacation thanks to your attention to detail...
