“Wonderful resort in the middle of Southern California”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2011

This resort was beautiful. You'd never know you were just minutes from L.A. and Disneyland. The view of the ocean from our room was amazing. The staff were friendly; we even did a timeshare presentation and felt no obligation or pressure. My kids had a great time too, the pool and hot tubs were great, and they have a teather ball court which was so much fun because I haven't played since I was a kid! I would love to go back someday soon.

I stayed here for two nights with friends that were staying from out of town. It was very enjoyable. I have no idea how someone can compare this to a Motel 6 or a Salvation Army hostel. I travel a lot and if anyone knows of one of those places that include the following, please let me know and I will there in a heartbeat. All of the units are the same and include:
--2 BR's/2Bathes
--2nd BR has a queen size bed plus a fold-out sofa bed
--There is another fold out bed in the living room
--2nd bath is pretty standard as in most hotels but probably a bit larger
--Full Kitchen with full cookware, serviceware and dishwasher
--Dining room
--Living room
--Patio/balcony dining for four
--Master bath is equiped with a double shower, double sink and a Roman soaking tub
--Most units, about 80%, have some sort of ocean view
--Each villa is about 1200 sq. feet and comes with a washer/dryer in each unit
--Five swimming pools, two hot tubs
--Tennis courts, basketball courts, putting green, kids playground for the younger ones
--A 'Kids Club' with a lot of activities for the younger ones. Some do come with fees
--A spa and two fitness centers
--A pool bar and grill
--Gas BBQ's around every building if you want to grill something and eat in
--Shuttle buses that will take you, not only around the resort, but to many locations in the area for free
--Five miles to Main Beach in Laguna and to Balboa Island in Newport. Four miles to Fashion Island. Thirty minutes drive to Disneyland
--The resort sits right above Crystal Cove which is the largest undeveloped stretch of beach between Santa Barbara and Mexico. It's also a California Historic District property that offers historic tours of the 'cottages' there that go back to the 1930's. It also has a very nice restaurant there, The Beachcomber, which is about six steps down the patio, right on the sand, and just a few feet from the waterline. It's called Crystal Cove because the water is clear and it's a dolphin birthing ground in the spring as well as an underwater marine park

Yes, Newport Coast Villas does charge for room 'tidy-ups'. But you have to remember that this is a timeshare, not a hotel, and the owners voted for that in order to keep their maintance fees lower. As for someone complaining about pillows and bedding, that's such a personal preference that even husbands and wives, sleeping in the same bed, can often disagree about so it's really not germain to this conversation so don't complain about it---what you like others don't and vice versa. It's basically the same bedding that Marriott uses in their hotels so, if you like those, you'll like these. If you don't, well.....

So, now someone tell me where that Motel 6 is that matches this.

Really enjoyed our 4 night stay at the Newport Coast Villas. We are not timeshare members and paid for the stay. Absolutely loved it!! Having a family of 4 with teenagers we really enjoy having some space to stretch out in. We had a 2 bedroom condo. It was perfect for us. Fabulous location to Newport and Laguna Beach. Would love to return!

We stayed here before, this time with the grandkids (12 & 14). We all had a great time. They would rate the "Shack" (a teens' hangout) as a c+. They had a few screens for Wii games and the sort and had some seating options. Need more activities, but it was Christmas week after all. OUtside they had more games, pool, ping-pong, giant chess. There was a game arcade for most any age, you pay the std prices. They loved the warm pool and beautiful grounds to walk around. We visited Balboa Island and peninsula.
The villas were a little smaller than ours in Palm Desert Villas, but very nice. The 2nd room had a double and a mini-couch with pullout for my grandson. There was a very inviting balcony with 4 chairs/table. The furnishings are fine with the standard kitchen appliances & dishware. Beautiful place. There is a mini mart there. There is a shuttle that will take you around the complex. Apparently there is a shuttle that will take you to crystal cove...unsure about details, we drove to the pkg place just east of PCH. They you can walk thru a tunnel to get to the cabins/beach and The Beachcomber.
Do your homework before you consider buying into timeshare/points' programs. It may be for you, it may not be for you. Just sayin'.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view/4th flr if nec. 3500 was quiet and exclt view on 4th flr.

Spent the week of 9 December at this place. The good point: a beautiful spot on the earth, waling distance to Crustal Cove State Park and the spectacular beach. The timeshare facility looks just fine, but that's the building and property. The rooms are basic. The amenities would compare with a Motel 6 or a Salvation Army hostel. Towels are the cheapest plain white probably on the market. The pillows - hard even to call them that - are about half the size of a normal pillow and would be better suited to a cat bed. So basically, you get a decent room but after that not much. Unless you want to pay and here is where the overall cheapness of Marriott is seen. Want your sheets changed? 19.00 please. Want 'tidy' service? 35.00 PER DAY please! And want your room cleaned the way your hotel room is cleaned at a Hampton Inn? That will be 85.00 PER DAY please, while the housekeeper makes minimum wage. The gyms are quite dated and the equipment old. The pretense of a spa is laughable. And no matter what you think you should expect as part of a stay, you will wind up paying for it. The fools who buy timeshares here are to be pitied. After speaking with quite a few of the cheerless staff drones, none seemed to know anything about prices. The only inkling of cost could be found online placed by hapless suckers seeking to dispose of their mistake. All in all, the location is wonderful, the property OK, but the service and amenities are really disappointing and the overall atmosphere of the place reeks of cheapness.

Newport Beach is a very upscaled area which offers alot to see and do. The lobby of the check in for guests was beautifully appointed and very attentive service by employees.
The room was very spacious and nice, but I thought the resort was directly on the beach, which it is not, you have the highway separating the resort, the beach and it is not an
easy walk to the beach. There is a starbucks on property which is a nice amenity.

This resort commands the best views of the California Coast anywhere. You are close to everything, spacious units and great balconies to enjoy the view. These are Marriott's so nice but not over the top. Soft sheets, great beds and fast service to get replacement sheets or towels. Kitchens are well equipped. Come enjoy the view.

Room Tip: Ask for an end unit.
