“Three Meals - One Day. Stunning Views!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

Having spent the entire day at the Resort at Pelican Hill, we ended up eating all three meals at the Coliseum. We had planned on going out for the last meal, but our child wasn't feeling well and we didn't want to stray far from the hotel. Bottom line, you cannot go wrong with this place. Good value, excellent service, good food and incredible atmosphere.

(a) Incredible view. In the morning, gorgeous view of the ocean and Catalina Island. Of all three meals, sunset is the most incredible. Great opportunity for photo ops, snag a table on the patio if you can.

(b) Breakfast. Wonderful buffet breakfast, fresh fruit, omelette station. Solid pick for variety of fresh and great start to the day;

(c) Lunch. We ordered an assortment of food. Salads, tapas and kids meal. Of the three meals, I was the least wowed by this meal. I had the cherry tomato salad which sounded great on the menu but was not the best of the best I had imagined. My wife enjoyed her assortment of tapas.

(d) Dinner. Really, the view of Catalina, sunset and atmosphere from the patio was stunning. Why go to Hawaii for sunsets and views like this - really stunning. Against this backdrop, the food was solid. Great fish, great starters and smart selection by the server on the wines.

For a restaurant in a hotel, and being the lower end of the restaurants relatively speaking, it was a solid pick and we will go there again.

“Food with a View!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

We come to the Coliseum Pool & Grill often and love sitting outside having a bite to eat or glass of wine with the best view ever. I've had lots of different things to eat here but my favorites are the quesadilla, pasta with marinara and the cob salad. Prices are so good for what you get and the kids menu has entree/desert with all the pasta/pizza you can eat for $10. Drinks are decently priced and staff is excellent always. This is our favorite restaurant to eat at in Orange County.

“A real go to evening spot”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013 via mobile

We make sure to have at least one meal here every time we are in Newport area... The setting (above the large circular pool, with the closing holes of the golf course in the background) and the food are really special.

A glass of wine at sunset is a perfect ouch at this restaurant.

Valet parking, if you are not staying within the resort is mandatory. Very polite and efficient.

“Teen and Tot appeal”

My Mai-Tai was sour. The food resembled previously frozen chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, etc. No frills, but served on nice platters at your poolside.
