We were towards the end of a long holiday in the USA and ready to return home to Australia but had the last 2 nights booked at the pelican hill resort. We arrived and as we had booked through centurion card got an upgrade to a 3 bed villa overlooking the ocean. It was beautiful, extremely well appointed, fireplace, fabulous beds and linens etc etc. the weather was perfect and the pools at the hotel and villa club great. The most amazing thing about the hotel is the service - the best I have ever experienced. There are so many staff and they are all completely ' on it' I had to take a coffee back ( as we had left it to go cold - totally our fault) and the manager came straight back to see me to check what the problem was.

Brilliant restaurants, fantastic service, such friendly and helpful staff and all in a perfect setting - we extended our trip by an extra 5 days - no wonder it won no 1 resort in the USA 2012 Conde Nast - well done very well deserved

Loved it!!

We spent our Christmas holiday in a 2 bedroom villa with friends and loved it! High end kitchen appliances, extremely comfortable beds and furniture. We had the gas fireplace on daily. Two Huge baths with separate bath and huge shower and a powder room. Plus a garage and washer/dryer. We were minutes from restaurants and shopping. And we had a view of the Pacific Ocean below. It is definitely on my list of favorite hotels!

Room Tip: 3 & 4 bedroom villas have incredible ocean views. Since we weren't staying in the regular re...

1. Beautiful, expansive resort. I love that you can wander around the property. If you don't like to walk they have people who will pick you up in a car and take you anywhere you need.
2. Rooms are awesome. I could see the sunset/ocean from the bath.
3. Service - Overall great service. We had to wait a little bit to get checked in and then they came by one too many times (a call, and three people stopping by). But everyone was really friendly and easy to talk to.
4. Spa - oh beautiful and wonderful. It's expensive, as you would expect from a first class spa
5. The restaurant - great food, expect to spend $200+ for a dinner here.
6. Value - I actually think this is a pretty good value for the large room and great service.
7. Location - amazing views but it is set back from the ocean. Also you can hear PCH from the resort.

Overall, would definitely recommend!

We stayed in a villa over New Year's. Fantastic. This is truly the nicest place to stay one of the country's nicest spots. Much better than the nearby Ritz, where we've also spent some time - this just has a much more resort-like feel. Great service, great amenities, garage with washer/dryer, amazing views, beautiful pool area, just all around fantastic. Every meal we ate on site was delicious. Will absolutely return.

This is an amazing property. The rooms are well appointed and the staff was fantastic. Only a few items I would note: the heater in our room was not adequate to heat the room, we cranked it all the way to 82 degrees but the room itself was never above 68 degrees and the bathroom was ice cold. I also felt the shower lacked water pressure. As for their coffee machine, I am not a fan of the idea of a coffee machine where I need to ground the beans to brew a pot of coffee couldn't they just get those nice Kcup machines? I was so worried I would screw up the coffee that I did not want to waste paying the $10 for the beans so I walked to the coffee shop in the lobby or drove to Starbucks in town. (this is not a huge deal to everyone but I am a huge coffee drinker). The only other item I did not like was the way they kicked us out of the bar in the evening, it was 10pm Saturday night(i guess this is when they close) and instead of nicely letting us know they were closing down and this would be the last call they started opening all the doors to let the freezing air in and just began to pack things up.

Sabina and I were in OC for some meetings and decided to stay (for the 3rd time) at Pelican Hill. We reserved through AMEX/Fine Hotels and Resorts so we got an upgrade to a HUGE Bungalow Suite so that was pretty great (AMEX does a great job)! There were a couple of places where PH fell short this time and they were: 1. service relating to the shuttles that are supposed to come and pick you up and take you around the property - it was 5 calls and 25 minutes of waiting before we gave up on our shuttle to take us to dinner (Andrea (amazing - see review)) and 2. service relating to us missing our reservation because of the shuttle delay - they made us wait an additional 10-15 minutes once we did arrive. The two incidents aside, the resort really is amazing - views, rooms, environment, etc. Also, the breakfast buffet at The Coliseum Barr was really great (and Chef Marc was very charming).

Room Tip: Use AMEX to book.
