“Fresh and gourmet”

Really good, fresh food and really nice owners. Menu doesn't change much and a little pricy. Still worth it.

“Outstanding food in a small town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

I don't know how New Moon Cafe keeps its chef in a small town like Nevada City. He could easily be a star in San Francisco! The food was so outstanding and paired nicely with an ample and flavorful wine list and one of the best beer selections I have seen in years! What a surprise!

We both had a carrot bisque soup which was excellent and accompanied by their own bread and oil, vinegar, or sweet butter. A great start.

My wife had the venison and it compared well with any venison we have ever eaten—juicy, tender, succulent, and accompanied by tasty vegetables. I had the gnocchi parisienne, the lightest gnocchi I have ever had. I cleaned my plate and still wasn't full (try that with most gnocchi).

The dessert was equally wonderful and we left shaking our head in wonderment at such a find. The only caveat was that we were overcharged 100% for the wine (the list was too big, I guess) and it was embarrassing to work it out with the waiter since we had already paid. No problem, however, and we would go back again and again if we were once more in the area (or even within 30 miles).

“Great Food and Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

This restaurant sets itself apart in Nevada City. Food is creative and delicious with obvious detail to seasonal and local ingredients. The service and food knowledge was impressive and while the setting is elegant it still manages to keep the casual vibe of the quaint mountain town. Don't miss it if your in Nevada City.

“Always Excellent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

New Moon is always excellent - the food, the wine list, the service and the ambiance. From the moment Buzz greets you, you know you are in for a special experience. The menu is always changing, and uses fresh local ingredients. The wine list changes seasonally, as does the art work. New Moon is always our first choice for special occasions, but it is reasonably priced and has lots of menu choices for a more casual meal too (and it's also a great place to go for lunch). I'm a big fan of their beet salad, the daily pasta specials, fish entrees - and all of the desserts are fantastic (so be sure to save room0!

“Memorable meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2012

Celebrated our anniversary at the delightful little gem of a restaurant. Had a corner table, which gave us the quiet, romantic feel on a packed Saturday night. Wonderful food all the way around, from the Pumpkin Ravioli & marinated olives we had as an appetizer to the prosciutto wrapped prawns I had as a main course, nothing bad to say about this experience. Food was fresh, locally grown and organic when possible. Good service and the Creme Brulee was top notch.
