“Enjoyable Dining Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

Three of us decided to drive up to Nevada City from Auburn and try out Friar Tucks Restaurant & Bar on a Sunday night. We entered via the bar area where a gentleman playing guitar greeted us with a smile. His choice of music was excellent and easy to listen to while dining. The waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu choices and variations. The onion soup and tempura tiger prawns were delicious. The steak salad was very good and generous so we took the remainder of that entrée home with us. For the past 25 years we have enjoyed Friar Tuck's signature dinner their fondue entrees; however, we wanted to try their other entrees this visit. This is a great restaurant for their fondue dinners from cheese to seafood and the various sauces and marinades that accompany your meal. If you like this type of dining, preparing your own concoctions with a hot fondue pot - this is the restaurant to explore. We will return to Friar Tuck's soon as the ambiance, great food and friendly staff make it a very pleasant dining experience combined with the Gold Rush era charm of Nevada City.

Great menu, well prepared and served promptly by a very friendly staff. The NY Steak with Bleu cheese was a real treat and the fresh fish was perfeclty prepared.

“Enjoyable First Meal In Nevada City”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013

We are in the area on business this week and decided on Friar Tuck's at the recommendation of our Innkeeper. Nevada City is a cool mountain town with a quaint downtown area and it is especially pretty at night lit up.

When we arrived we were seated in the bar area and then moved to the restaurant section where there were booths and nice tables for dinner. We started with the Pistachio soup which was rich and flavorful. My entree was the Cedar Planked Salmon which was served on a bed of rice with a side of grilled veggies which were delicious!

My son joined us after awhile and ordered the hamburger which was served with a side green salad. The burger was not your usual hamburger but was served on a sandwich roll which was a little different. Our service was attentive and professional throughout the meal.

If you're into fondue, this is place also does them with cheese and a variety of different meats. This was a nice place for dinner, I do recommend a meal here while in the area. :)

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

Food was poor, and service slow! Waitress was pleasant and it appeared the problem was the kitchen. Chicken Picata came out 45 min. after order, browned to the point of burned, without any sauce...and a few capers sprinkled on top. Salads were only good thing we had. If it wasn't for the bottle of wine we had, we would have left mid meal.

“for these prices, they ought to b serving clean grass fed meat”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

Yeah. Prices r high enough that they ought to b serving clean meat without antibiotics, hormones etc. and service is definitely lacking. We r looking for a new favorite plac,e to eat with organic salads and veggies and meat fom Longhorn butchers. Come on friars it's 2013 and time for you to step up to the plate with a healthier fare.
