I can't say enough nice things about what a wonderful time I had at the Deer Creek Inn. Ruth was amazing and made us feel right at home. With such a nice atmosphere we made new friends and ended up with an anniversary I will never forget. Room was fun. The grounds are beautiful. And breakfast, well, breakfast was out of this world every morning. If I had more thumbs I would give it more than two thumbs up.

My husband and I had a memorable stay at the Deer Creek Inn while visiting the historic gold rush town, Nevada City. We were graciously met by Ruth, the "inn keeper" who showed us to our spacious and charming room on the second floor and invited us to share delicious appetizers and wine with the other guests. Ruth is a former restaurant owner, and the extensive breakfast she prepared was gourmet quality. The Inn's setting near a creek, ambience, and location definitely merit a five star recommendation,

Room Tip: All the rooms are quiet and clean. You can't go wrong selecting any one of them.

My husband and I stayed two nights at Deer Creek Inn earlier this month while visiting friends in Nevada City. Every aspect of the stay was so delightful we ended up spending more time relaxing at the Inn than we had anticipated!
Ruth prepared delicious, and healthy breakfasts that were not overly sweet or rich. These were served in the gorgeous historic dining room where we enjoyed conversations with other guests. Ruth also welcomed us back in the late afternoon to freshly prepared tapas and a glass of home made Limoncello!

Several family members and I recently booked a suite at the Deer Creek Inn, and we couldn't have been more charmed by the ambience of the inn and the graciousness of our hostess, Ruth. The setting of this inn on the banks of Deer Creek is beautiful. The convenience of being able to walk to the downtown Nevada City historical district and all it's amenities is fantastic. I look forward to staying at the Deer Creek Inn again.

Room Tip: For a 2 bed/2 ba suite connected by a common inner door, I recommend the Ida and Winifred rooms. One...

We were helping a friend with an event that lasted late into the evening, so we thought it'd be fun to treat ourselves to a B & B, and we LOVED the Deer Creek Inn! So much that, although we live only 45 minutes or so from there, we will definitely be back! Ruth is the quintessential B & B hostess! Upon check-in, she showed me around and offered her homemade limoncella liqueur (saved that for later!) We stayed in Elaine's room, being intrigued by the thought of a 'roman tub', and since we were coming back late, it was nice to have a private entrance. The queen size bed was perfect and there were even extra pillows and a fluffy down comforter in the armoire (sooo nice!) We snuck upstairs to find wine glasses and she had left out a delightful peanut butter/crispy treat. We grabbed some water, the treats and little tiny glasses of her delightful limoncella, which we sipped in bed. Breakfast was delightful, she is a very good cook! Started with baked pears (oh, and of course a great selection of tea and coffee), and OJ or a white grape peach juice. It was followed by a kind of modified eggs benedict, fluffy, scrambled eggs, over english muffins with canadian bacon and perfect hollandaise sauce. Too much to eat! But it was followed by a sweet course, which we HAD to taste! It was basically like a carmelized french toast, topped with sliced fresh strawberries. Delightful! Ruth made us feel very comfortable during our stay, definitely not 'in your face', just the perfect amount of hospitality. Since we were the only guests there, we asked to see the other rooms, and fell in love with The Lela room, that will be our next stay! Highly recommend The Deer Creek Inn, and especially now, when business is slow and it's so affordable.

Room Tip: For a private entrance, the Elaine room is perfect! But the roman tub wasn't that comfortable fo...

Spent this last weekend with the hubby at Deer Creek Inn in Nevada City. This was our first experience staying here. There are other choices, but none with the location on the creek (which runs all year-round) like this. We stayed in the Elaine's Room downstairs. It has its own private entrance which permitted us significant privacy in our coming and goings during our stay along with an outdoor sitting area and direct access to the gardens and creek. The room has a French/Paris flare, queen sized bed that is comfortable, and a small armoire for any hanging items. The bathroom has a large and deep tiled tub with duel showerheads. Beware to test the water before climbing into the shower because hot is literally HOT! Also being downstairs you will hear foot traffic and movement above. Our host, Ruth, was wonderful in engaging conversation amongst other guests during early evening happy hour that offers wine and tasty appetizers, as well as, breakfast. The parlors are a great place to sit, relax and read. We found ourselves gathering in the kitchen around the wooden carving table/block chatting with guests both in the evening and morning before breakfast was served. The breakfast is complete and well presented. One day it was a spinach and egg fritatta, along with red potatoes, sausage, and very rich french toast. Coffee, tea, and juices were available. The second morning it was a mushroom, yellow pepper, and cheese quiche, baked hash browns (that were oh so good), sliced strawberries in heavy cream, and a blueberry and cheese torte. So much food and all VERY good. There is a mini-fridge off the kitchen, in an area that once was problably a screened sunroom and now is inclosed and functions as a staging area for the coffee and tea and when the breakfast is served buffet, in the fridge are sodas that are available at all times. This was a good thing for me because my morning coffee is a diet soda. There are a wonderful array of restaurants, local pubs and shopping within walking distance. Ruth is well versed in the area as a native and more than willing to steer you in the direction you might desire, make reservations, etc. There is limited parking on site and ample parking directly across the street. We will definitely return in another season to enjoy the warmth of the sun! Our only complaint, and it really isn't a complaint because we are a large dog owner, is that there is a smell of dog downstairs and there are dogs on the premise. In the event that you have allergies you may want to stay upstairs instead of downstairs.

My husband and I stayed the night at this B&B for our anniversary. We loved the beauty of the house and Ruth's hospitality. She was the ultimate hostess and an excellent chef. We are still talking about that breakfast! The location of the inn is nice too. It's close enough to walk to downtown Nevada City, but set back a little so you're not right in the middle of everything. I recommend Deer Creek Inn to anyone who wants a nice place to get away. We'll be going back again.
