“Fantastic place to stay while in the Valley”
Reviewed June 2, 2009

I can’t say ENOUGH about this Hotel, Inn, Motel, B&B
It’s all these combined and then some!

We stayed at the Best Western Elm House Inn May 20- 23 in Napa Valley
And were absolutely delighted we chose THIS one after reading Trip Advisor’s reviews. I’ve included some pictures, which doesn’t vary much from all the others that has been posted already though.

Pros:
Quaintness, if you want a Holiday Inn (note HOTEL) don’t stay at the Elm house
Staff, one of the best I’ve had the pleasure to meet. Tom and Connie the owners, son Ted and the rest of the staff are there to help you in ANY way they can. And always with a smile! On arrival we were a few hours early, and our room wasn’t ready yet. We were given suggestions on where to go for some wine tasting, with complimentary coupons, they keep in a huge file box sitting right there in the lobby. It was about 20 min away, and it was a perfect place to start our 3 days of wine tasting!
Cleanliness thumbs UP, with beds AND pillows VERY comfortable!
Garden, very beautifully manicured. You can sit, relax, and have a glass of wine. After all what did you come to Napa Valley for anyway right?
Fridge in room makes it nice to keep drinks, and a few snacks on hand.
Economical as far as Napa Valley standards go! We were ok with paying $200 in the middle of May, and especially after we found how cute it was.
Easily accessible to anywhere you need to go. It’s located minutes from Napa Town Center, downtown, which is loaded with shops, boutiques, restaurants for every taste, and to the major highways to all the wineries.
Breakfasts, with plenty of variety, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, bagels, pastries, fruit, juices, milk, coffee and homemade Belgium waffles, poppy seed bread, and yogurt parfaits,
Homemade cookies to DIE for every night at 6, and we were lucky enough to get one of the rooms on the 1st floor in the main building and could smell the cookies being baked, and the breakfasts being prepared every morning. Yummmmmy!

Cons:
Hmmmmmm… can’t think of any. Other than someone else mentioned in his or her review how close the Inn was to a fairly busy street, but we didn’t notice the extra traffic noise to be a bother, and we even had our windows open a lot, instead of the AC!

When we get back to Napa Valley, you can bet we’re staying at the Inn again. This has been one of the “BEST” Best Westerns we’ve ever stayed in!
Am afraid with all the great reviews, it won’t be a secret any longer, and will have to book MONTHS in advance.
If you’re going to the Napa Valley, this IS the only place to stay! You'll be glad you did!

We stayed here for a weekend getaway. I think "Inn" is the perfect term, it really is more like a bed-and-breakfast than a motel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The evening cookies and apple cider are a treat. The morning breakfast was better than at any Napa B&B. The rooms in the main building are nice. We upgraded to the superior room in the detached building. The room was enormous. (For instance, the "closet" even had its own sink.)

My husband and I stayed two nights at this hotel last week while on our way to wine country. Although we truly enjoyed the hotel, the hotel's location was not what I expected. The hotel is located right in the middle of town on a busy street; we had a little trouble with street noise, but other than that we have no complaints. The hotel has, i would guess, 20 rooms? The rooms were spacious and clean. the bathroom was clean and had a heat lamp which was a nice touch. Breakfast was great as well. It was a regular continental spread, but with the nice touch of homemade sweet breads (that was great!) and personal service.

I couldn't believe this was a Best Western. It looked like a quaint little bed and breakfast. The staff was so great and they served a great breakfast in the morning and afternoon tea. It was a bit outdated but very clean and well worth the price.

We don't live very far away but were celebrating our anniversary so decided to stay one night mid week, at a local B&B. When our plans changed and we needed to also stay a Friday night, our B&B was already booked. Getting a hotel room for a Friday night only is very hard during the season in Napa. Elm House came through for us.

As nice as all the staff is, a wonderful breakfast, beautiful roses on all the tables and great cookies in the evening, it is still a Best Western. The difference between a mid week stay at the best room in the top ranked B&B, and a Friday stay here was about $40. So possibly that is coloring my view somewhat. Considering what some other places wanted for the same time period, the Elm House will always beat them hands down.

Everything said in other reviews about the staff is true. They are great. We checked out of our B&B and did not want our wine purchases to sit in the car all day, so we took a chance that our room at the Elm house would be ready. It was! We checked in about 10:00 am.

Being almost local, we usually try to time our overnight stays to the off season when prices are more reasonable. If you need a weekend during the season, this is a great choice and one we would come back to. Just know that you are paying for the location of Napa Valley and not the hotel room.

We stayed in this wonderful, charming, 20's bungalow converted into really a B&B but with a Best Western Name on it. We stayed from May 5th to May 7th. The room was clean and quaint and they had 2 dbl/queen beds which is hard to find in Napa.

They had nice bathrobes and windows that open. That is a wonderful feature especially in a nice California night without humidity :). There is a fabulous rose gardens and another garden where the hot tub is. There are also 3 rooms in what looks like it might have been a garage. What a wonderful charming place to stay. They also have a nice sitting area with a fireplace. It was wonderful.

They have a great breakfast with homemade Belgian waffles. YUMMY!! Hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, cereal, fresh fruit, homemade muffins, toast, tea, coffee, and cocoa, and an assortment of juices. The fresh chocolate chip cookies at 6:00 pm were yummy.

If you want to have a nice happy hour you can always visit the fabulous "Lucky Market" walking distance to the Elm House. They have a wonderful wine selection, food, and other drinks. They have a wine opener at the desk but buy one if you want to open a bottle past 8:00 pm.

The Celedon is a fabulous restaurant with absolutely divine food and drink. IIt is about a 30 minute walk (middle aged strolling walk :). I highly recommend the "Spa Martini". I will save their recipe for the staff to tell you but they are an antidote to everything that ails you :).

My friend Jean had the white Sangria which was excellent as well. All the food we had was fabulous. The menu is seasonal as you would hope in a wonderful place like Napa. If they have the salt and pepper Sea Scallops on the menu gobble them up. My meal was fabulous but Jean’s scallops were out of this world.

The Culinary Institute of America is 20 miles away and a must see and must eat but is price and don't really expect to get out of the place under 50$ a person and that would be with app and entrée and non-alcoholic beverage. Reservations are always a good idea at any resturaunt. Napa is wonderful place, so is Youtville, and St. Helena. All wonderful places to visit.

Staying at the wonderful and afforadable Elm House Inn is a great starting off point for lots of wonderful Culinary and Wine adventures :).

We stayed at the Elm House Inn in Napa for 2 nights at the start of April. We were shocked at the ridiculous prices run of the mill inn or bed and breakfast places wanted in Napa, so we were pleased to get a room at the Inn for a discounted price, especially considering it is rated No. 1 by TA members. All things considered however, Napa hotels have rip-off prices, and although we did get a discounted price, considering what you are actually getting for your money, it still does not represent great value, so although everything about the Elm House Inn was fine in our view, we are marking it down on value.

Check in was simple, and the young female receptionist was friendly, informative and welcoming. Our room was on the first floor. There is a small lift if you have a lot of luggage like we did, but being a small inn you are on your own in moving it, which is fine considering how close your room is.

The room was a decent size, and as expected decorated in a homely old-fashioned style which is consistent with the hotel and its location. It was perfectly adequate for our needs. The bed was comfortable and warm, and there was a TV, although don’t go expecting movie packages or even a particularly clear picture for the available channels.

The inclusive breakfast in the lounge area downstairs was a good way to start the day. There is a selection of juices and cereals, pastries, toast, waffles, fruit, etc. The waiting staff (which includes the person on reception – multi-tasking is the order of the day here!) were very friendly and efficient. All staff, including the owner, were very pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. We had a small problem with the bathroom sink and it was sorted out really quickly.

The lounge is welcoming, with a fire and some sofas, and there is a lot of literature about local attractions and activities. There is some seating outside and also a small jacuzzi, but this was closed as the weather was not warm enough yet to open it for the year. There is also a guest laundry area, which we found very useful having been touring around for 3 weeks.

The Inn is a small, cosy, welcoming sort of place, and we had no complaints at all about our stay.
