“A charming B&B - don't get turned off by the corporate name!”
Reviewed December 13, 2011

My husband and I came to Napa with a large group of friends to enjoy a weekend of exploring vineyards, eating delicious food, and sharing good company and conversation. We were all pleasantly pleased - and to be honest, a bit surprised - at how perfectly charming and lovely the Elm House Inn is. Our entire weekend stay was a delight. We were greeted at check-in by the overwhelming smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, accompanied by a cold container of milk. Breakfast was fantastic, complete with hot belgium waffles and homemade coffee cakes. The staff was attentive, the hot tub was ready whenever we wanted to take a dip, and the rooms were large and comfortable. There was a bit of noise from traffic on the nearby street, but that's to be expected in a busy little town like Napa. Elm House is a quick 10 minute walk to downtown Napa, which was great for our group. We were charmed by the Elm House Inn, and we plan to return on a future visit to the Napa Valley!

Room Tip: Try to grab a room in the separate house - it is further away from the noise on the main street and...

I'm actually staying here right now and enjoying it very much. My room is large, clean, visually appealing. I could ask for a lighter room, the windows face some pretty dense foliage, but it's not a big deal. The people are kind and helpful, the coffee is GREAT and they make homemade muffins which are to die for. Haven't gone down for the breakfast now but if the other reviews are correct it's something to look forward to. I'll amend my review it it wasn't. Wi-Fi works well, mattress is slightly too hard for my taste but probably better for me. NIce and quiet.

This is not a fancy hotel (no one should expect that at this price range), but they get all the important things just right. You will be greeted with warm, friendly staff and delicious warm cookies. Breakfast is a wonderful experience with freshly baked sweet breads, made to order waffles, attentive staff members and a cozy atmosphere with a fire in the fireplace, tranquil music, and homey decor. The rooms are clean and well-appointed, with comfortable beds. The hotel is conveniently located just off the freeway with easy access to Napa and Sonoma wineries. We'll definitely stay here the next time we're in the area.

I stayed here with my mom and sister for my mother's 60th birthday. I would describe it as a hotel that has a touch of bed and breakfast. So, it's not uncomfortable, which is how I personally feel about B&Bs, but it has that family-owned and cozy touch. The lobby area is small, but includes the area where breakfast is served, as well as a couch/chairs by the fireplace-so cozy! The outside seating/garden is off the lobby, and it's cute and cozy out there as well. There was a large binder full of local restaurants that was helpful in viewing menus and picking a restaurant, as well as games, books, etc. available for entertainment.

The rooms (we had two queen beds) are small (it was a little crowded for three of us and our carry-on luggage, there is no seating area), but immacuately clean and well-kept. I think that is the most noteable aspect of this hotel...it's very clean and well-kept and you can tell the family takes pride in their hotel! The room had sinks both inside and outside of the bathroom, which was nice with three of us. Also, our room was right next to where the breakfast was served, and we never noticed the noise (other reviewers have commented on this).

The breakfast was great and included cereals, oatmeal with fabulous toppings, fresh fruit, made-to-order waffles, juices, yogurt, and breads/bagels/etc. They also had freshly made pumpkin bread available all day and they make homemade cookies at 6pm (with milk).

The location is convenient...right off Hwy 29 and a mile from downtown Napa. We had no problem getting around from the hotel. Plus, it's close/cheap enough to take a cab downtown for dinner if you plan to drink.

I would absolutely stay here again, but probably wouldn't put more than two people in a double queen room. I'm not sure what other room sizes are available.

Although we don't live far away, it is always fun to spend time in the Napa Valley! We, however, are often discouraged by the prices. This time Elm House Inn was a find!! As others have said, it is more a B&B than hotel...yet it is large enough to not feel intrusive. We asked for an upstairs room and was given Room 201 at the top of the stairs. A corner room with windows on two sides, it was fresh and airy, bright, cheery and comfortable. All that and a large flat screen TV! The only thing that could have been better were the bathroom amenities...better quality tissues, toilet paper. But considering the rest of the inn, that is a tiny criticism! Cookies (right out of the oven) and milk were served at 6 pm. (a little early we thought but we were glad we had an early dinner and got in on time!) The breakfast, served in the charming sitting room, was attractively arranged and fully supplied. And we were immediately offered home cooked waffles (not self served) served to us with warm syrup! Other offerings were fresh fruit, granola, cereal, yogurt, several kinds of good quality bread and english muffins for toasting...as well as individual loaves of nut bread...and probably more! The tables were set with beautiful red quilted place matts and small vases of miniature fresh red tulips. A big, bright Christmas tree and a collection of German style Santas finished the festive country atmosphere. As you can see, I could go on and on!! There is also a "secret garden" type patio and a hot tub!! Service was friendly and we look forward to visiting Room 201 again!! (Try Allegria for dinner...another treat!)

Room Tip: If you choose "our room" 201, know that it is on the busy street. But double pane windows...
