October 7, 2013: We arrived without reservations and asked about two rooms. The Inn occupies a restored mill along the river. We were shown the last two rooms available that were perfect: newly renovated, spacious, great view, reasonable price. The employee showing us around was very helpful. We said we would take them and went to reception, but someone else had taken one of them and we wanted two rooms. The location was perfect--along the river in an historic building. This is a fine Inn with caring staff in a well-maintained restored mill. So although we did not stay at the Inn, we inspected it and it was perfect. The woman at reception wrote down the names and phone numbers of three other inns that we should try and was very concerned for us. We will reserve next time. We returned to eat at Celadon's restaurant in the same restored mill that evening. The food and service were exceptional. .

My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time staying at the Inn during August! As the front desk was processing our check-in, we were immediately offered delicious wine which set the tone for the whole stay. We ended up relaxing in our gorgeous room for a while since we had a several hour drive from Monterey to reach Napa. My girlfriend and I ended up not getting hungry until late. Even though the gentleman running the wine/food store just to the right of front desk area said that he was closed, he allowed me to purchase some snacks and drinks for my girlfriend and myself anyways! The morning after our first night, my girlfriend and I enjoyed a beautiful run through Napa starting from the Inn. Later on that day, we able to easily stroll through downtown Napa from the Inn to grab lunch and enjoy the beautiful weather. We decided to schedule an evening on the Napa Wine Train through the Inn which they so seamlessly performed and even offered us a ride to the train station! We only stayed two nights but the room was beautiful and offered us a pleasant place to rest after our days of activities. We look forward to visiting the Inn again upon our next trip to Napa!

We stayed at the Napa River Inn for 4 nights in early October, using it as a base for our time in the wine country. Though it is comparatively new and not among the inns that are touted as the best in the area (all of which were unavailable when we were booking), this was a great alternative: the accommodation and amenities are very good.

We had a room upstairs and on the corner of the Embacadero wing which was large and well laid out. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The room had an air-conditioning unit that was a little loud at times but was very effective. There was good room to work at and a dressing area separate from the bathroom. The one negative was that the very small double doors into the bathroom were liable to catch you coming and going and during our stay one of the door handles remained hanging by one screw even though the daily maid service must have seen the need for repair. The room was just over the hall from a shared outdoor landing that allowed a view over the river to the station from which the Napa Wine Train left each day.

The Inn is superbly placed to see old Napa township which has some very interesting shopping options and lovely Victorian villas in surrounding streets, which have been very well restored. Access to the main highway north into the valley was very simple and straightforward. We also crossed the river several time to explore the town further afield. The River Inn could not be better placed to allow this.

We were very glad of the assistance of the Inn's Concierge who could not have been more obliging. We had left New Zealand without finalizing bookings for the wine tours we wanted to undertake. Our concierge was able to finalize the booking even though we had no luck trying to do so on line - we were very grateful for her help.

The Inn is adjacent to 3 eateries - a place called "Sweetie Pies", which provides the Inn's inclusive breakfast option through a voucher system. We weren't particularly impressed with this at our first try and opted to breakfast next at the Napa General Store cafe which was a much better option. Thirdly there is the restaurant Angele which is very good.

We would recommend this as a place to stay in Napa and hope to return.

Room Tip: Try for a river facing room, though be aware that the view can be a little "industrial"

My husband and I were lucky enough to stay in the only suite in this Inn. It was beautiful and functional. I slept wonderfully in the comfortable bed and you can enjoy at bath in a claw foot tub or a tiled shower. There is a wet bar in the suite as well. The room was very clean. Service was great and friendly. I will definitely stay here next time in the area.

Just finished our company partners retreat at Napa River Inn, and can highly recommend the hotel for similar functions. As one reviewer said, everything in the Napa Valley is truly expensive, so given that fact, this was a reasonable option.

We had 9 "Superior" rooms in the seperate River Plaza Building (recommend paying for the River View side) and 4 "Deluxe" rooms in the separate Embarcadero Building across the parking lot (these are the larger rooms, and face the river also). There are a few rooms in the main hotel building called Hatt Hall, they have no River views. Ask the Hotel for a site map, as it was hard at first to understand were the rooms were located.

The rooms were very nice and well appointed with a fireplace and Peete's K-cup coffee. Shower was in a tub, so not high end. But everything else was great. The Chocolates and wine bottle every night were a nice touch!

The Hotel is part of a re-developed district, re-built into an old Warehouse, and has a very cool mix of new and old. There are lots of unique shops built into the re-developed area, a bakery (from which you will get your breakfast) a general Store, restaurants, and even a jazz club.

You can pre-order your breakfast the night before, and have it delivered to your room at a time of your choosing. But if you are willing to go downstairs, you can see and order from a much wider variety of freshly baked and cooked breakfast items. Plenty of food - all of it excellent!

We booked a lunch with the General Store one day, and sat outside on the river Bend Plaza. This is a wonderful outdoor area, right on the river.

The conference rooms are somewhat limited, one small one buried inside that seats about 8 (10 max) and a much larger one, that seats about 50. We set up in that one day, and it was a bit dark and cold. The Hotel was able to book us a meeting room down the street for our other meetings, which wash't really a problem, (as long as it does't rain!)

While not in the tranquil vineyards of Yountville, we really liked the location, you can walk to every restaurant and bar downtown, and feel safe walking back, as everything is so close. I liked being on the River edge, as opposed to the Andaz located more downtown.

Definitely worth considering as a weekend retreat, or a small group meeting. We found the Hotel was very willing to try and accommodate our needs.

Room Tip: Room 306 is a corner room with windows on 2 sides with morning sun, very nice

This hotel was almost perfect- the location, the value, the quality of the complimentary breakfast, and the comfort of the bed. The room was a little small (I had one of the less expensive ones), and there wasn't a lot of space for my luggage, but otherwise everything was perfect. The bottle of bubbly and chocolate covered strawberries a very pleasant surprise.

The hotel is close to many restaurants and tasting rooms- which was perfect as our trip was focused on the consumption on wine. It allowed many choices of where to eat without having to get in the car. The front desk staff were excellent.

Room Tip: I think a room on the river side with a balcony would have been nice....but also priced accordingly.

Nothing is cheap in Napa, the hotel costs a bit but so does everything around there. Our room was very nice. We had a view of the river and unfortunately, the view across the river was basically a run down industrial looking spot that kind of was a buzz kill when the hotel was so new and tidy. However, the room was good, service was good and we enjoyed our stay. The "free" breakfast was a loser as the place where you get the breakfast (Sweetie Pie's...very poorly named) is run by obnoxious staff that don't value the "hotel" customer who carries a "free" breakfast ticket. THAT was frustrating and after two days of cold rocks (allegedly pastries) we ended up skipping the "free" breakfast to go pay for a good meal at the Napa General Store right down the sidewalk. On the plus side, the soap and shampoo in the room were AWESOME. :-)
