My husband and I found the tour very informative. We were able to taste over 10 wines and learned about the different types of barrels, origin of oak, flavors, number of times barrels are used and of course, different varietals. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The wine was very, very good. I think this is a MUST SEE for people that are interested in how wine is made and the variables that contribute to the final product.

“Make this your last tour of the day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2011

Great cave experience with uniqu tasting right out of the barrels, one of the ffective gimmicks of the tour. The wine tasted with of good quality, and the pourings from The "thief tools" was plentiful and enjoyable. The finish with cheese and chocolate was a very nice way to end the tour.

“Del Dotto- Adventures in Caving”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2011

For the grand finale, we went to the Del Dotto Caves and Winery Tasting Room(www.deldottovineyards.com) in Napa. This fun but mildly pretentious winery charges $40 per person for a 1 1/2 hour tasting and tour of their caves. It's a heck of a good time and quite educational, but bring a sweater as it gets cold. We had a group of 8 who were all casual wine connoisseurs. Our guide, the "Jesse James" guy was very friendly but kept making reference to "those people" who buy grocery store wine. Sadly he was speaking to the chorus and after the fifth time of him speaking down, on what I believe is the general population, I started to get a bit annoyed and I could tell a few others did too. Although, this one little quirk was annoying, the guy gave us one heck of an entertaining tour through the candle lit dark caves. We tasted some amazing wines and were a bit shocked at the high price tags, on average a bottle was $75-100. The tour ended with the group sharing a platter of cheese and meats and truffles and a glass of delicious port. We ended up buying a bottle for nostalgic purposes and are letting it age so we can enjoy it just as Jesse James told us to. He did let us in on a little trick, drink wine when tailgating at football games so you won't have to wait in lines at the restroom like the beer drinking schmucks. This by far was the most entertaining winery I have ever been too and I would definitely recommend it to friends.

“Excellent tour, excellent wine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2010

This was by far the best cave tour we have taken while visiting Wine Country, CA. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgable. It was worth the money to do the tour and barrel tasting in their candlelit caves. We tasted many wines straight from the barrel and learned lots of new information on the flavors of wine in different barrels. To top off this fantastic tour, it ended with a wine/cheese/chocolate pairing. We couldn't leave without purchasing a few bottles of their fantastic wine!!

“Best winery experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2010

We've been to quite a few wineries, and this by far was our favorite experience. It is pricy. We spent $50/person to do the cave/barrel tour, but so worth it. We tried over 20 "futures" from the barrel & are now just waiting for our bottles. If you want to walk away with your wine the same day, this might not be the place for you b/c they usually are bottled a couple months later. They offer food after the tasting (cheese, salami, pizza, etc) all included and everything tasted great. If you happen to be on a tour with VIPs, you get to taste and buy those also. But very expensive.
