“Napa Birthday Trip”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

I surprised my wife with a trip to Napa for her 60th birthday, our best friends also joined us. From the moment we arrived we were treated with Over the Top service. From sitting on our balcony, strolling around the property, and sitting by the fire, the facilities were outstanding. There were plenty of things to do but we preferred to be by ourselves. A great family resort or a quiet getaway either way you will find this facility outstanding.

Spent 5 days here in Oct of 2013. Our room faced the vineyard which was a nice view. The room was clean and spacious enough for us. We had a bottle of cold bubbly waiting which was very nice. The Romance Package we purchased included breakfast in the restaurant which was good - order anything off the menu - the omelets were delicious, a couples massage which was excellent, and dinner one night in the hotel. Two thumbs up for the staff here, they are friendly and accommodating. The location is ideal to jump on the road & head for vineyards. My best tip: if you buy wine at the vineyards (a bottle here and there) the hotel can ship it home for you, for a sizable fee of course. Just head to UPS in downtown Napa - price is reasonable and quality of service great.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the vineyard are nice.

We paid a lot for a room, more than Hotel Yountville (which was awesome), and we were very disappointed in the hotel. First, the condition of the room was ok not great. Second, the facility has a bowling alley, a random bar and weird restaurant that you have to trek through conference like space to find. It was all odd. Third, the crowd was totally weird and a strange mish mash of people -- hence the confused hotel title to the review. Fourth, the resort does not look like the pictures. The idea that you are in a room and look out the vineyard is not accurate. Fifth, the grass is all fake astroturf. Sixth, the work out facility was icky and dirty. Seventh, there was construction going on on a Saturday night when we arrived. ODD. Eighth, the staff had no idea where to tell us to park and we ended up trekking all over the place to figure out where to go -- this was after a long day of traveling. I would never stay at this place again and would not recommend it for anyone.

Room Tip: Don't stay there.

Biggest dissapointment was turning onto the drive to the hotel, to find it was in an Industrial Park. Completely ruined the experience. Just couldnt get past it. And then when we checked in we were told the Main Hotel was closed for construction, and we were hoping to stay in a room overlooking the vineyards and pool area. Then i tried to cancel the stay because our expectations were so shot, but they wouldn't allow it without charging me for the two rooms for the night. Which are fairly expensive anyway. We tried to enjoy coffee near the pool area in the morning, but the hammering from inside was an unpleasant distraction.
Although i would like to say that the Spa was lovely, and we had a very good massage there. We never truly warmed up to the location and the fact that there was never any mention on the web site or anywhere else that they were under construction.
I did mention all of my concerns upon check out, to a very nice front desk manager but never had the feeling that they cared how we felt.
All they had to do was allow us to cancel that first night, and we would have left happy.

Dear TheLous_11- Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts on Trip Advisor. I am sincerely very sorry your experience left you less than satisfied overall. I empathize that a vacation is suppose to leave you happy and stress-free, and you certainly did not feel that way. We are indeed undergoing renovations and they are set to conclude the end of March. If I may, I'd like to connect you with a member of our management team with regards to your stay. I have sent you a direct message to request additional information. Please know that your feedback has been heard and we certainly appreciate your time.

Stayed for one night recently and it was a mixed bag of experiences. Staff was overall nice and attentive, though valet area was busy with a wine tasting limo and the hotel's shuttle bus, so we ended up self-parking and walking our luggage in, no biggie. Rooms were nice, newer, but there were misses on some of the details. One of the nightstand lamps wouldn't turn on, turns out someone had unplugged it. Vents in bathrooms were filthy (see pics). Heater in room is somewhat noisy, and the walls are thin. We heard every single door slam shut up and down our entire (long) hallway.

The absolute worst was being accosted at every turn in the lobby, from the front desk area to the concierge, about whether we'd be willing to attend a "presentation" (i.e. timeshare). I didn't realize this property sold timeshares. We said no politely several times, and they pushed back with, "Don't you want free breakfast?? Don't you want wine tasting coupons??" Well, yes, of course I do but not at the cost of going through a timeshare presentation.

We've stayed at sister properties Estancia La Jolla and Balboa Bay Club, and were really surprised that Meritage, given the cost, came up so short vs. the others.

Booked a room, spa massage (Portofino Room), and a dinner at Siena at this beautiful resort to surprise my wife on our 32nd anniversary mini weekend getaway. It was a success and we truly enjoyed every minute of our time. Staff was very friendly and courteous. Check in was hassle free. We got an upgraded room (3rd fl) with a balcony and view. The room was clean and seemed like a model home with a "new house smell." Bathroom was spacious with his and hers sinks. Dinner at the Siena was great as well. The lamb was awesome. We got greeted by the friendly hostess who made sure to acknowledge what we were celebrating. We received complimentary glasses of bubbly, waiter was attentive and courteous. The underground Spa Terra experience was also great. The two female therapists were very friendly and did a great job. We ended our spa with a glass of bubbly and chocolates. During checkout, the friendly staff told me that our dining check was $25 off. Great!
It was a great, relaxing, memorable and romantic anniversary weekend for us. Thank you, Meritage Resort.

I expected certainly more from this resort - instead I encountered a room with very thin walls. Both nights could hear neighbor's TV, music playing and people going up/down nearby stairs. Spa was overpriced and drafty. An included 20% gratuity, loud "relaxation" area was not appreciated. Food in the bowling lounge was insipid.
