I'm not sure if it was because we were in a room blocked off for a wedding but I was really disappointed by how much we spent for something that would equal that of a mass mid-tier hotel chain. If I had known what it was like, I would have just booked at the Holiday Inn or elsewhere which actually have really clean and decent rooms. Our room was on the first floor and some of our lamps didn't work. But the hospitality and efficiency is there so that was taken care of immediately. The gym from the looks of it is great in terms of the size and number of machines, but the only problem is that half the cardio machines didn't even work properly so a lot of people would wait around. The restaurant with the bowling alley had really great service but the food was so upsetting, a bad asian fusion dish made me so sad. But maybe that was my mistake in the first place for ordering an asian fusion dish. Better off ordering drinks and fries. Another friend who also stayed on the first floor said that their room faced a courtyard and that it was incredibly loud as there was a wedding going on both nights and weren't able to get a good night's rest. That is poor hotel planning right there. I have a feeling the rooms on other floors in different parts of the hotel were better, but for the price we paid for our stay it was really upsetting as we could have gone elsewhere and paid just as much for a better experience. Also, we were all from New York and our hotel rates are pretty high. We all agreed that the rooms we got at the hotel didn't make sense for the cost in comparison to really nice NYC hotel rooms like at The Hudson, etc. I hope other people had a better experience than we did.

While we're happy to have been able to host your recent visit, we're disheartened to hear of those shortcomings associated with it. We strive to create an environment that's as refined in its offerings as it is in our signature hospitality, and we apologize if your experience was less than this. We encourage you to reach out to our team with any lingering concerns you might have. We'd love the opportunity to speak more with you. Many thanks again for your time, and all our best.

My husband and I vacationed in Napa at The Meritage for New Year's Eve. The accommodations, food, wine and service were all wonderful. The lobby was decorated for Christmas and was warm and inviting. The highlight of our trip was the wine cave dinner on New Year's Eve. The five course, wine paired dinner was outstanding. The midnight party was a let down, but the night was memorable, nonetheless. Our room was spacious and very close to all activities at the resort. We enjoyed relaxing with wine at the outdoor fireplaces or at the bar. We had great meals at the restaurant and the concierge assisted us with recommendations and reservations. The resort is situated about a 5 minute drive from Riverside with lots of restaurants and shops. A shuttle is provided which made traveling outside the resort convenient. If we ever get out to the West Coast again, we will look to stay at Meritage again.

Great place to stay. Very clean and nice setting. Bed was super comfy, nice big bathroom. The staff couldn't be more helpful. Spa was lovely, treatments were great. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony overlooking the pool.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the pool, fabulous!

10 of us met at the Meritage in December 2013 for my sisters 50th birthday. What a wonderful time. It was just perfect! The girl at the front desk at check-in was so nice-- wish I could remember her name, (we checked-in on the 13th of December) but truth is at check out with Dean and every other time we had dealings with the front desk they were all just great. Chelsea at the concierge's desk was a sweetheart and was ready to help us with anything to make our stay at the hotel and in the Napa Valley the best. The hotel is beautiful. The rooms were clean and surpassed our expectations. We had the Spa Diva Pkg so we all got a fabulous spa treatment. The spa itself was just wonderful. We enjoyed the steam room and the soaking pool. Spa attendants were helpful and friendly. Our package came with breakfasts which we had down in the restaurant so all ten of us could be together, but we could have had our breakfast delivered to the room as well. All the meals were excellent. Our waitress, Latasha, was such a treat. Friendly and efficient. We had dinner in the restaurant the first night and it was great. All the wait staff did everything to make the meal special for us and the food was excellent. They seemed to know it was my sisters birthday and did special things like giving us all a complimentary glass of champagne with dinner and complimentary fruit tray with breakfast. We felt like everyone at the hotel went over and above to make our stay special. All of us commented on how nice, friendly and helpful everyone was at the hotel. A maintenance person was doing a small repair on a wall in our building and held the door for us and wished us a wonderful stay. Just little things like that made our whole stay delightful. I would recommend the Meritage in Napa to anyone wanting a lovely time in a lovely part of the country. My cousins from Kansas were so impressed that they are planning to come back out with their girls for a girls retreat and we all have plans to meet at the Meritage again for my 60th.

The setting: This hotel is located right in wine country, just ahead of Napa, the town proper, as you drive north on route 29. It’s a massive property with a huge parking lot. The main building with the front desk and lobby is inviting. The valet at the desk just in front of the main entrance is courteous and prompt, speedily helped us with our bags and car. There is a medium sized outdoor pool and a small hot tub behind the main building. When occupancy is high, it is virtually impossible to get a pool chair. Cabanas are available for an extra charge, but are also hard to come by. There are restaurants and a bar at the property, none of which I tried as food is too good in Napa to eat at the hotel. There is a nice gym at the property, which is open to the outdoors. The property has a wine tasting cave and guests can walk around in the vineyard surrounding the property.

The rooms: Mine was a courtyard view room with a king size bed. The room was in a newly finished building and still smelled of fresh paint and finishes. There was a small balcony facing the parking lot/courtyard; needless to say it was not used. The room was large with a comfy bed and a large, flat screen TV. There was a desk in the room as well. The bathroom was large also and had nice finishes. The walk in shower had good water pressure. The wireless internet was free and worked well throughout the hotel, which was a nice touch. The room service delivered breakfast was boring and not worth the $30 price tag.

All in all, if you want to stay in Napa but the super pricey boutique hotels blow your budget, and the budget options 30 miles out of town are not an option, then this property makes sense. However, the $500/night price point is still too high for this type of hotel. At most it’s four stars. It’s huge and somewhat impersonal and the amenities like the pool and gym are less than what I expected for this price range.

Highly highly recommend this hotel. Very convenient to other vineyards in napa. The wine cave is beautiful and the tastings are interactive and excellent value. Spa is also in the cave and they have separate whirlpools and eucalyptus steam room for men and women. All the services we had were fantastic and staff was incredibly helpful and courteous.

Loved the hotel and rooms. Spacious and inviting. The concierge service is one of the best I have encountered. They go above and beyond. Jackie and Sharon went to great lengths to ensure our trip was everything we wanted. Loved the vineyard and grounds as well as the tasting cave. The worst thing about the hotel was the restaurant. Terrible service terrible. But the rest of the staff and hotel was extraordinary
