Food was delicious - very inventive (a pasta dish with roasted pork). Service was attentive but not intrusive. Very enjoyable dinner!

On presenting ourselves inside the door, my first take was negative: a warehouse venue and nobody to check our reservations and to seat us; however, within a few minutes, a server appeared and gave us the choice of either the warehouse-like venue or an attractive, warm inner space with tables that promoted our hope, a quiet space to catch up with a couple that we had not seen in years. My wife and I choose the water.
An attentive server took our drink orders and continued with outstanding service. Each of the four of us totally enjoyed the meal. Not only was the food of excellent quality, but it was prepared to perfection and very tasty. When we lingered in conversation after paying the reasonable bill, the servers were supportive.

Six of us met up at Celadon on a Saturday night. We love the setting at Napa's Riverwalk. Four November birthdays in our party! Four scorpions with two handlers. We were immediately seated in the high ceiling gallery that fronts the restaurant. Big fireplace, strategically placed infrared heats and generous spaces. It was about 5:30 and those tables were filling fast.

Anne was our very competent server, and she guided us well. We began with several small plates as appetizers. Celadon bills itself as the Global Comfort Food restaurant and those small plates told a continental story. The Calimari was one of the best, refreshingly different thanks to a savory but light sauce that was tangy without being annoying or cloying. Good thing we ordered two plates. The goat cheese and figs also went fast. And the dungeness crab cake with ginger aïoli, thai rice noodle salad with cilantro and mint was a bit hit. Sorry we only ordered one.

Six separate entrees were selected. My partner chose the pasta of the day, a seafood medley atop lightly sauced Pappardelle. She rated it a 10, a big vote from a life long Italian cook. My pork porterhouse was a generous serving, perfectly cooked. It came with sweet potato purée (like mashed potatoes but far better), brussels sprouts and apples, apple cider-truffle glaze. I wanted to pick up the bone to get at morsels that had escaped the attention of my knife.

Other selections included the house special, a savory lamb steak, and a braised lamb shank. I don't remember the other two. However, each member of our party volunteered a minimum of 9 stars out of 10 at the end of the meal.

For dessert, we decided to share lemon meringue pie in a Grand Marnier sauce (Anne's strong recommendation), plus a Creme Brulee with carmelized bananas. Both were served with candles for birthday wishes and various hot beverages from the dessert menu. And boy did the goodles disappear fast, especially the pie.

We had brought our own wine, paying corkage. But a glance at the wine menu told a strong story of well-chosen selections by the glass and bottle. The dessert menu also offered up an interesting selection of dessert wines and spirits. All told, the bill averaged $70 per head. Not bad for nine-on-a-ten scale dining in a very nice setting.

This was our first trip to Napa and our first dinner was at Celadon. The food was scrumptious. The calamari was delicious. The pork tenderloin with sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts melted in your mouth. Celadon did not disappoint. It was a most enjoyable evening in Napa Valley.
