“Wonderful Inn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2007

The Inn on First was absolutely perfect for our stay in Napa Valley. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and spacious (the bathroom has two sinks!). The jacuzzi and fireplace in the room were a romantic touch. The rooms have balconies too.

Jim and Jamie, the proprietors, were wonderful hosts. They have a vast knowledge of the valley and everytihng to do from activities to wineries to dining.

Breakfast was aboslutely phenomenal. We stayed two nights; one morning we had homemade pancakes with pears and creme fraiche; the next a freshly baked quiche with thai basil creme fraiche. Plus an assortment of fresh fruit and coffee. Delicatable, for those foodies among you.

The room comes equipped with a travel bag with maps of local attractions and snacks, which Jim or Jamie will gladly sit down with you to go over and help you cater your stay there for your interests.

Overall a wonderful experience and I would absolutely go back there the next time I make it out to Napa Valley. I would also recommend this place to any of my friends.

We stayed at the Inn for a mini honeymoon in early November of 2007. I found it by looking on this site and read great reviews about it. Luckily they had one room left, as we only had a 3 week notice. The room was so clean and nicely decorated. We absolutely loved the jacuzi bathtub! Jim and Jamie were so helpful making recommendations for us and reservations. The breakfast was fabulous. I had a wheat allergy and they made special breakfast for me, which is more than we can say for one of the local restaraunts. We were only there a few days but the memories we made are worth a lifetime. We would definitely recommend this Inn for those who enjoy B&B. We can't wait to go back!

My husband and I celebrated our one-year anniversary at the Inn on First, which marked our first Napa stay. We loved our experience at the inn because our room was elegant and cozy, the inn is historical yet has a modern flair and, best of all, the friendly owners, Jim and Jamie, met all of our needs! Their recommendations about restaurants and wineries were perfect. They really guided our entire Napa experience. We can't wait to go back!

The Inn on First is a perfect B&B to stop in for a night or to stay for a week. The inn keepers, Jim & Jamie, are the real hidden treasures in the Napa Valley region.

Jamie provided thoughtful recommendations for us each morning in regards to our own travel plans. At breakfast he listened attentively to the needs of two different couples and one large group of four and provided customized recommendations for them as well. Jim & Jamie went above and beyond for all their guests in regards to booking restaurant reservations, spa accomodations and touring services. We all commented during breakfast time that they were an invaluable asset to making our trips to the Napa Valley unforgettable.

We would highly recommend staying in the garden suites that have the jet spa bathtubs and access to the patio on the second story. The rooms are very spacious in the garden suites and it felt wonderful to have the patio doors open to let in fresh air while relaxing in the jet spa bathtubs. The peace & serenity of the outside garden area was perfect for reading by yourself or conversating with others.

Your taste buds will thank you for treating them to the gourmet breakfast that Jim serves prior to you heading out for the day. The food (all organic products) is exceptional and we loved having access to homemade bakery goods all day long. The service is unquestionably the most accomodating and friendly we have encountered in our travels along the California coastline. We have since recommended the Inn on First to family members, friends & loved ones.

Thank you to Jim & Jamie for being our standard of excellence for B&B's in Napa Valley region (and beyond).

This is one of the few times that the inn is much nicer than the pictures. The rooms are beautiful and feel luxurious with a gorgeous gas fireplace and huge in room jacuzzi. Little touches like a snack bag and classical cd's make it even better. Jamie and Jim are great. They are available without being overbearing. We only had one day and they personalized an itinerary for us that was perfect. Breakfast was amazing and the location is very convenient to downtown. I was very sad to leave and will be coming back.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn on First when looking for a relaxing and romantic spot on our first trip alone after our baby was born, and wow, what a find! We picked it on the flattering reviews here on Trip Advisor, and we weren't disappointed.

Jim and Jamie are wonderful hosts, even when Jim was laid up with a sprained ankle. The inn is impeccably decorated and spotless. We stayed in the gorgeous Meritage room, which was simply gorgeous. After an incredible dinner at Bouchon one town over in Yountville, we came back to our room, cranked up the fireplace, and enjoyed a wonderful soak in the jacuzzi tub.

Both mornings, we were treated to one of the best meals - let alone breakfasts - we've ever had. And both Jim and Jamie had fantastic suggestions on where to go tasting, which is really a thing when you're from San Francisco and you go up to Napa often.

We left Napa feeling rested and well fed, and much of it was thanks to the Inn on First. We'll absolutely stay there again and recommend it to anyone who asks. Jim and Jamie made us feel completely at ease and at home. We can't wait to go back!

Visiting Jim and Jamie is like being part of a wonderfully updated version of the happy family from a 60s. ...Jim emerging from the kitchen with deliciously prepared treats, personalized to our dietary requests. ...Jamie showing us how to operate our spa tub and fireplace and warning of dangers on the road. ...both providing sage advice as to how we should spend our day in Napa and setting up activities for us. We'd return in a heartbeat. Great food, location, facilities and people. Smiles all around.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We are setting the new standard for the American Bed and Breakfast Inn. This is not an inn for traditional B&B people. We are attracting the next generation who want great food for breakfast, well beyond the traditional omelets, frittatas, and egg bakes of old. This is where you get to experience a chef's creative innovation each morning, one of his 130 recipes for breakfast, such as Corndog Omelets, Tomato and Egg Soup with Grilled Cheese Croutons, or S'mores French Toast with house made Marshmallows.WARNING: we do not cater to people who want to stay connected to the television. We purposely removed all televisions so that couples can enjoy the intimacy of whirlpool tubs in the rooms with gas fireplaces, or sit out in the garden sipping on wine and enjoying great conversation. Yes, WiFi is available for those who feel they must stay connected to the outside world, but our hope is that you will learn to leave all that aside to enjoy great Napa hospitality here at the inn and at the wineries. ... more   less
