“Loved this Inn / Hotel! Greatest birthday present:)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2008

My bf planned a trip to napa for myself and a few of my girlfriends for my 30th birthday. It was an amazing weekend and we loved our stay at the Inn. The room was just the right size and was extremely clean. The common areas were pretty and comfortable. Unfortunately we couldn't make use of the pool, but I took at look at it and it was in a nice private area and would have been great to use, if not for the rainy weather that weekend. I have to comment on the breakfast - it was REALLY good for a buffet breakfast. We ended up eating breakfast at the Inn every morning even though we originally planned to go out for brunch.

We had a marvelous 3 day stay at this hotel, well maintained, room and bathroom were clean and nicely furnished (we loved the sound machine - fell asleep to thunderstorms one night, crashing surf another and a crackling fire the 3rd!)

Staff was friendly and never overbearing. Location was convenient.

The continental breakfast was very nice, however room service was average to poor. I would order take out or dine elsewhere in the future.

  • Liked — Lovely rooms and great value
  • Disliked — Exterior/entrance not indictaive of the high quality of the hotel. Room service was below average.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at the River Terrace Inn in mid-September. We were pleasantly surprised on how well-appointed our room was. The bathroom was spacious and goregous, and the rest of the room was also large and very nicely decorated. The bed was extrememly comfortable and the room had a large flat screen tv, dvd player, sound machine, alarm clock with ipod dock, refrigerator, sofa and coffee table, and small patio. We had the most basic rate, so we weren't expecting much. But, we were pleased. Breakfast is basic, but complementary. The pool is small, but adequate and the fitness room is pretty tiny. The location of the hotel is nice and you can walk into the downtown, but you will need a car to get other places.

My husband and I stayed at the River Terrace Inn for two nights in early September. It was our first visit to Napa. Based on reviews we read on this website we chose to book a room and we have no regrets at all. The hotel room we were given was well appointed and maintained. The bathroom was very large and again very well appointed. We found the staff to be exceptionally friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was more than adequate and it was so nice to be able to sit outside in the morning and enjoy it. Overall we found our experience at the hotel to be lovely and we highly recommend it.

While we have traveled to California many times, we were all newbies to the Napa Valley. We're not even wine aficionados, but it was a part of the state we thought we should visit. For 4 days, we were not disappointed. Of course it helps to have a love for seeing new places, good food, beautiful scenery and interesting sights and for that, Napa filled the bill.

So we were hoping to find accommodations that matched the appeal of Napa without breaking the bank. With the recommendation of a friend, the River Terrace Inn served as our base.

The location was right outside of the central business district of the town of Napa and located on the Napa River, a smallish river with a lazy Mississippi flow. There is no access to the river, but it seems a romantic place, more so than in reality. It's too bad as it's river location is something that should be better taken advantage of by the hotel, if indeed it is allowable by those who have jurisdiction over the river bank. Also close by, within walking distance is the Oxbow Market and COPIA, both excellent attractions for food and wine.

On site is an outdoor pool which loses sunlight a couple of hours before sundown, a small exercise facility with 3 or 4 machines and few free weights, a large lobby lounge area and outdoor patio where the complimentary breakfast is served and consumed. There may be some meeting rooms, but otherwise, it's a 4 storey wood frame building that's fairly attractive.

Our room, unfortunately was on the Ground Floor adjacent to the Exercise Room and turned out to be one of the 'accessible rooms' for disabled guests. The room itself was comfortable for the 4 of us parents and college age kids and was fairly well appointed. Strangely, the two lamp bedlamp between the two Queen beds would not allow to only switch one lamp or the other, both were either on or off. A little annoying. While on lighting, the bathroom was very dimly lit. We also had to ask for an arm chair which due to the disabled access requirements was not provided on arrival. There is no wireless internet signal, but the hardwire is complimentary. There is a large flat screen TV.

Our room being next to the Exercise Room, was not completely sound proofed, being able to hear the muffled pounding on the treadmill.

Newspaper provided to the room is USA Today and the Napa Valley Register is available at the Lobby.

There is I believe an on-site restaurant, Terrace Cafe, however we did not give it a chance with so many other culinary options available in the area. However the complimentary breakfast is, in my mind, the best thing going here. There is plenty of selection including hot and cold items, good variety of fruit and baked goods and all well prepared, but not made to order. There is complimentary wine tasting too I believe, but again we were out for this activity enjoying the Napa sights and smells.

If you have to work off some of the calories from dining in the Valley, there is a 1.2 mile pedestrian path that follows the same river shoreline that starts about 4 blocks north of the hotel on Lincoln Ave which makes for a nice flat jog.

All in all, the River Terrace Inn was a nice stay, however not one to really "write home about". Staff were nice and generally helpful, although they do not have a concierge. The breakfast made it for us. In this price range, there is not much in the immediate area. However a Westin is just being completed immediately next door, also on the river's edge, which I'm sure will give cause to the RTI to step it up a notch.

Happy Travels.

For our first ever trip to the Napa Valley, this was the perfect base.
It is in kind of a commercial part of Napa, but once you turn the corner and enter the parking lot, you are in kind of a little oasis of comfort.
I'd compare it to a Hilton Garden Inn, or a Courtyard Marriott.
The room was very large and quite comfortable. We had a king suite overlooking the river. The deck was quite small, but it was nonetheless pleasant to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine enjoying the view of the Napa River.
Nice bathroom with marble counter tops, and an additional vanity outside the bathroom. Great jacuzzi tub and a double headed shower. Stocked mini bar, plus a separate fridge for our own stuff. Very nice touch that I've never seen before.
The outdoor patio is very nice, with a large fireplace that the bartender is happy to fire up.
Top marks so far. Now a couple of nits:
There were tiny red ants in our bathroom (saw about 6 or 8 of these little critters over a 3 night stay.)
I despise wall mounted air conditioners. This room had one, and I'd say it was a bit noisier than normal.
The breakfast buffet was kinda lame. I've seen better at Holiday Inn Express, and waaay batter at Spring Hill Suites (Marriott).

We did drive by a Best Western and an Embassy Suites. I think the RTI looked far better than both of these.

I'd have no hesitation in recommending the River Terrace Inn

We loved the River Terrace; the location, rooms, and amenities were excellent. We booked their buy 2 nights, get 3rd free special and it was a great value for this area. It's right at the beginning of the
wine trails and close to shopping and restaurants. The breakfast included a very nice selection of hot and cold items;there is a nice bar and patio to enjoy also. Nice pool , exercise room and lobby.
This place is spotless, and has a friendly, helpful staff!
