We had an event to attend in the Napa area. Not being of the wealthy persuasion, my sister reserved five rooms at this Motel 6 in Napa for family and friends.

Over the decades I’ve stayed at a number of Motel 6’s and other budget-type motels. This one was THE WORST! (Think of a really cheap motel straight out of the 1950-60’s.) The only positive thing I can say about this property is (perhaps) its location.

Why the owners/franchisees don’t update their property? Probably because they don’t have to!

Stay here if you must. But shop hard – very hard – for another property in the area at which to stay.

BTW One of the five families in our party walked into their room, immediately walked out, and refused to stay.More

Unbalanced manager had 8 people thrown by the police for having one bottle of wine in the pool area.
I'm 40 years old, travelled world on business and holidays and seen just about everything and even I cannot even believe what I'm about to write.

The room itself. Premium prices for the most basic of rooms. AC cannot be controlled or turned off within the room meaning in the middle of the first night I had to put towels across the AC unit and turn the heating on it was so cold. It then got so warm, I had to get out of bed to turn the heater off. Initial check in was fine, a young Indian lady who I didn't catch her name was very polite, no problem and gave us maps of downtown etc.

First night apart from mentioned above an uneventful night and no sign of what was to come.

Day 2, travelling on business with 4 Britons, 1 Australian and one native San Franciscan, Age range 26-50. We went on a wine tour which picked us up and dropped us back at the location. I'm not going to pretend we hadn't had a drink but by no means were we drunk or rowdy.

Arrived back at Motel 6 where we decided to sit by the pool and one of our party went to the local supermarket opposite to buy some drinks. We had been sitting around the pool when the same Indian girl came out and said we couldn't have the glass bottle of wine and the glass beer in the pool area. We immediately apologised, and another member of the group went back to the supermarket to buy plastic cups (of course none were provided).

We kept the empty glasses in the beer box we bought to recycle. This was around 6pm. There were no reports of any noise disturbance or any damage to the property. A women then appeared screaming at us that we had been warned about the glass (which was stored securely in the empty beer case) but noted that we had a glass bottle of wine on the table (being drunk with the plastic bottles we had bought ourselves) and that because of this she wanted us out of the property.

We actually thought it was a joke but on realising she was serious, there was not one thing we could say about the entire situation that would change her mind. She shouted at us, used offensive language and instructed us that she was calling the police and locked herself in the office.

None of us had raised our voices, or been offensive but were now baffled by this bizarre scenario. We decided to head to our rooms, get changed and leave for the evening hoping things would settle down. However within 15 minutes, all 6 of us, including 3 Canadian girls in their mid 20's who were touring California who had come to the pool in the meantime and had a drink with us, had a bang on the door from the manager who I now know as Maggie, accompanied by 2 Napa Valley police officers instructing us to get of the property. Maggie shouted at me that I had 15 minutes to get out.

As she walked away, I calmly talked to one of the police officers on lawfully what grounds she had to evict us or what crime we had broken, but the law is if even if no law has been broken if she wanted us out she could. He also informed me that he had tried to reason with her on what seemed like a very trivial matter but she insisted on the eviction. I asked the police officer to look in my room for any damage which there was none, and if he had any complaints about noise or damage which he agreed he had not.

The upshot was 9 people evicted from this property on nothing more than the unbalanced reasoning of the manager. You may think you are saving money here but put one foot out of line here and you could be paying for another nights accomodation after being thrown out of here (Of course they did charge my card the full nights price).

I'd like to think this was a bizarre, wrong-place-wrong-time episode but since my return, look at other review sites mostly US such as Yelp etc and you will see this exact same scenario play out to other people - in one I read Maggie evicted a paying customer because she thought she was a prostitute as she was wearing an evening gown for a night out!

STAY AWAY and Motel 6 corporate do something about this 'manager'

Pretty good room for a Motel 6
I have to hand it to Motel 6 for at least trying to cultivate a better image than the past. Front desk staff were ... polite, and were dressed VERY casually, like jeans and t-shirt. A bit unexpected to have ones kids there too, but not too disruptive. The room I stayed in had been updated to look a bit more hip and modern. It was a reasonably clean room, and about what I would expect from this chain. The bed was alright, but the pillows were a bit thin. Power outlets were conveniently placed where I needed them. Wifi was good too. The bathroom was okay, with good hot water and shower pressure. I was a bit mystified that the toilet lid was mismatched to the toilet bowl, but at least it was clean. I actually REALLY preferred the stand up shower instead of a typical tub/shower combo - good job there. Happy to se a microwave and fridge in case I wanted to run my own meals. Wasn't too noisy for being close to main streets. I probably overpaid a bit for the room I got, but all in all, it was very good for a Motel 6.

Abusive Staff/ Horrible rooms
I stayed here with some colleagues over the weekend at Napa Valley. While sitting outside of the pool area was met with a shouting, screaming and threatening woman who didn't even inform me that she was the manager or what i had done wrong.

Maggie (as i later found out) didn't not give me and my colleagues any notice as to the allowance of glass bottle in that area- we had bought plastic cups as instructed by another member of staff and though that we were being responsible. we all tried reasoning with her and promptly removed the wine bottle out of the area and pleaded with her to calm down however the verbal abuse and insults were never ending. we were asked to leave the hotel, she informed the police who escorted us out like criminals. the police even tried to reason with her in private however she shouted at them too.

She wouldn't even give me my invoice which is illegal as I'm a paying customer.

P.S the rooms are smelly, all the lights are broken and i was woken up throughout the night by screaming group of Spanish speaking men right outside my window-too scary to go out and speak to them at 3 am. Why didn't she call the police on them?

Horrible stay.

Wouldn't have been worth 50 . way to expensive for a bottom of the barrel hoteli
Had to get this 200 dollar room because it was the last one in town. 200 for a motel 6 is rediculous but I had no choice. We would have been disappointed if it was 50$. Horrible, room smelled, scary drug addict people all around the premises. My wife was afraid to go out to our car alone. Staff was rude and the towels smelled like mildew and animal urine.
Honestly one would be better off driving a little further to find something, anything better.
DONT STAY HERE FOR ANY PRICE!!! My son said that the pool was cold and dirty.

Clean Room, Gracious Service
The room was spotless. My wife actually prefers the laminate floor to carpeting. Both of the times I visited the front desk, the staff were cordial and welcoming befitting a Five Star hotel. The hot water in the shower comes so fast it must be from an on-demand local heater. Wi-Fi has easy sign on and proved string even on the next-to-last room on a wing. All non-smoking rooms.

I suspect the cleaning staff is paid about the same as the Solange resort, but when they noticed we left a long stem rose in the room, they found a craft beer bottle from another guest, cleaned it, put water in it, and left it by the mirror. That was such a thoughtful touch!

Of course, it is a Motel 6. Breakfast is available across the street at Starbucks. (If you are up before that opens, there is a 24 hour 7-11 across Trancas.) The walls between the rooms allow noise to travel pretty easily. They provide soap, but not shampoo. Heating/AC works very well, but is set centrally.

For guests with peripheral nerve problems or other causes of decreased joint position sense, ask for a first floor room. The second floor halls and rooms have gentle undulation that is kind of fun for anyone with normal sensation, but increases the risk of falls in the dark for those that don't. This does not seem to reflect structural damage, but must be due to weird sub-flooring.

So for an older Motel 6, this is pretty good.
