“Bel Abri is a comfortable & value added inn with high quality bedding.”
Reviewed November 20, 2010

My husband & I stayed at the Bel Abri for two days recently. Prior to our trip we spent some time searching for affordable accomodations in Napa that would be a pleasant place to stay. We chose the Bel Abri & we were not disappointed with our stay there. The bedding was luxurious & the room was very spacious. The free evening wine reception was accompanied with a generous offering of cheese, crackers, olives, and fresh veggies. After a long day it was nice to come back and relax with other guests in the comfortable lobby area. Our only disappointment was the breakfast served. Although the portions were generous, the quality of the food was average at best. It would have been nice to have been served whole grain French toast with real maple syrup for example. Otherwise, this place served our lodging needs and the staff was considerate and accomodating.

This inn is nothing to look at when you drive up, but once inside you are a world away. It feels very comfortable and the hostess was very friendly and helpful. We were upgraded to a fireplace room when we reserved and stayed on the second floor. The room was elegantly furnished and welcoming. The fireplace added that romantic touch, as did the soaking salts for the tub. The room had a very comfortable bed, a nice sized bathroom, and a table and chairs for our breakfast, which was delivered. The honor bar was a great touch and was very reasonably priced. If you don't mind being a few blocks away from downtown Napa, this a great little B&B.

While the staff were friendly enough, the room was underwhelming with no view. Any bed and breadkfast my wife have been in had free snacks and drinks--usually fresh cookies. This place had an "honor bar" where you had to pay for snacks and drinks. While it was nice to have breakfast delivered to our room, the food was cafeteria style in quality--you got to choose three items from the menu. Our first day was cereal, fresh fruit, and toast--how boring (and you need a bigger breakfast before going to wine tastings!) I will say that staff were accomodating when we had to leave early and miss breakfast--they packed a to go sack for us that had fruit bars and juice. They also let us use their computer to check our bags before our flight the next day. Oh and the evening wine tasting--ugh, poor quality wines.

Don't believe the web site... this is a unattractive hotel with a cheap breakfast delivered to your room. The hotel is located on a slightly sketchy side street. For the same price you could stay at a real B&B, and not this place. It was a real disappointment after staying in a real B&B the night before. I feel I was misled into staying somewhere I NEVER would have wasted my money on otherwise.

After reading all the reviews and laboring over what hotel or B&B to stay, we chose this place. There were so many reasons we were disappointed and wanted to leave, I can't even list them all. To sum it up - this place is for tourist, not travelers.

Pros: inexpensive for Napa ($150/night, discounted) I still felt we overpaid knowing other accommodations with the same price. Clean. New. Soft water. Free breakfast. Free Happy hour snacks. Free parking. Fireplace in our room. Good location near highway.

Cons: Overly Loud (California is a busy street and the windows didn't block the vehicle noise). Misleading advertising -Looks like a motor inn with the building on top of street level carport parking (certainly not a French Inn nor B&B). Pillows were polyester and no feather pillows even when requested (always have feather at B&Bs). Cheap and flimsy bed. Lobby was cramped (about 20' x 20') and nightly hors doerves served 2 feet in front of elevator. Front desk unknowledgeable about location of wineries and restaurants (got us lost 3 times). Lukewarm (never hot) water, I tried to tolerate a cold bath. No conditioner or hand/body lotion (not available even on request) or soap, just shampoo and shower gel. Terrible coffee (make your own in the room with no name cheap packets). Breakfast (3 items per person, including drink!) not enough for hungry people (I'm 115 lbs, ate every bite and still was hungry). Front desk calls daily to say "breakfast will be there in a moment" which would arrive anywhere from 15 -30 minutes later. Breakfast sent to your room 8:15-9am ONLY. This is hard to gage when the front desk tells you the breakfast is coming and it takes much longer than they advised. Didn't realize this would be a daily problem - you nearly have to be waiting and doing nothing else (i.e. shower, dressing, etc) if you want to eat it hot. It's served without anything to keep it warm (lids) so you do have to eat immediately. Toast and etc cold by the time it gets to you. Took us until day 3 before we figured out they took about 30 minutes after their phone call to deliver. Location of bathroom door and closet door were in front of each other, kept knocking each other and making it difficult for 2 people to move about. Toilet broken, water ran all the time.
They cut corners in lots of ways: 1 napkin for 2 people, 1 butter and 1 jelly for 2 people (4 pieces of toast). marble shower walls with a plastic tub. Dimestore faux french pictures next to nice wood furniture. satin nickel bath fixtures with plastic low-flow showerhead. cheap uncomfortable bed with soft and nice linens.

Had a wonderful stay at Bel Abri. From their cozy, comfortable beds, luxurious linens, beautifully apointed decore through out, delicious breakfasts delivered to our room, wine and cheese nightly, to a very warm and knowledgable staff that was very well versed on what to do and see and where to dine in the Napa area. I would highly recommend this B&B!
