La Residence is a lovely homey property, nestled into a vineyard setting, and close to all that Napa has to offer. They offer suites, a nice pool, beautiful garden setting, and grapes growing in the yard. The is a wine reception daily at 6:00 featuring local wine and cheese.

The staff is friendly and helpful. If you are planning a function, Alana is wonderful to work with and will accommodate any request that she can.

They also offer a small meeting space. A business meeting horseshoe style seating can accommodate approximately 12, with limited catering.

We have stayed at La Residence several times, by ourselves and with a group of friends and we just had to comment on our new favorite Napa retreat. What a wonderful hidden gem right on the main drag at the gateway to the valley. Just minutes from all that the valley has to offer. From arrival to checkout everything was perfect. The staff, the grounds, the rooms, the service, all were above our expectaions. Even a vinyard in the middle of the property. They will help with every detail of your stay, you just have to ask. Some of the best sleep that we have ever had. The patio is a great place to meet and greet fellow travelers while you enjoy the wine casual wine hour. Check it out; you won't be dissappointed.

Room Tip: All rooms have unique charming country decor

For the most part, we enjoyed our stay at La Residence, but it lacked the "wow" factor I was hoping for and the "luxury" that their website describes. At the price I was paying, I expected more.

Likes:
- Grounds: The best part of the Inn. Lots of little gardens and sitting places to read a book or sip a glass of wine.
- Location: Easy access on Rt. 29 with wineries and restaurants all within an easy drive.
- There is a nice pool, but it wasn't heated and we found the water too cold when we would come back around 6pm and therefore didn't use it. If you took a day off from touring, this would be a nice respite. We did use the hot tob and this was great! We found the wine hour was a great time to use the hot tub. All the other guests were there and we got the tub to ourselves after a day of touring.
- Nice evening wine reception with plenty of tasty treats.
- Nice breakfasts with fruit salad, pastries and your choice of 2 main dishes. A nice way to start your day of touring. Although, each day we were there, both choices were a form of eggs. It would be nice to have another option.
- All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Dislikes:
- Our room was in the Mansion house. While it was quaint, comfortable and clean, I wouldn't say it was "luxurious" by any means. The decor, furnishings and linens were nothing special. At this price point, I expected a luxury spa and we got a country inn. I'm sure other rooms were nicer, but they came way over our budget.
- Noise: Our room was on the first level and unfortunately both right within the main door and at the bottom of a staircase, making for some foot-traffic noise. There is also the noise from the highway out front. Furthermore, there were chairs on the front porch outside our windows and other guests would occassionally sit there and chat. No fault of the Inn, just oblivious tourists who can't think beyond themselves. We were only there 2 nights, but I would have requested a room change if staying longer.
- The hot water took a while to heat up, but when it finally kicked in, it was scalding. We also didn't like that our room had the sink located in the bedroom area, outside of the bathroom.

I would stay here again if I somehow got a special rate, but otherwise would save the money and spend it on a nice dinner or other aspects of the trip. In the end, we spent very little time at the hotel and most of our time out touring and tasting.

This was our second stay at La Residence, and we cannot wait to go back. The rooms are fabulous, large, nicely decorated, super clean. The property is gorgeous, grapevines right out side our room, with lovely chairs and a table, you can view the stars at night and enjoy a glass of wine.....

Very quiet...........very cozy.........

The evening wine and appetizers are a great way to start off the evening on the main patio. Breakfast was equally tasty, and a great way to start the day..........

We're from Dallas and my wife's hair stylist recommended La Residence. So you never know where a good recommendation might come from! Located one block off Hwy. 29, where many of the more popular winery tasting rooms and tours are located. Most of the rest are probably within a 20-minute drive. It's lovely and quaint, but not as frilly and "frew frew" (is that a word?) as some of the B&Bs. The main building is like a large home, with outside access to the rooms. Plus a few smaller "homes" on the property. We stayed in Suite 13, which has a bedroom, sitting room and two bathrooms. Very nice. Our adult son slept on the pull-out sofa and it was pretty darn uncomfortable. But everything else was wonderful. Big, poofy bed with nice linens. Very modern bath area. The largest, fluffiest towels I've ever seen in a hotel were an unexpected amenity. The office has a friendly, helpful staff. (Got us a discount on a hot-air balloon ride...which, if you've never done before is absolutely worth getting picked-up at 5:15 a.m. to experience.) Continental breakfast included omelets. I believe the property is now owned by the Hall winery, so they have tastings every evening in the large dining room. Large, outside deck with comfy seating for relaxing and chatting with guests in the evening. Very nice Italian restaurant within walking distance that Robert Mondavi used to visit. We would definitely stay here again. (If you're visiting several vinyards, try Robert Mondavi for an excellent tour and explanation of the winemaking process, but include Viader (pronounced Via-dare) part-way up a mountain for the most spectacular view in the valley as you taste several varietals on their lovely patio (by appointment).

My husband and I stayed here on 5-13/5-14-10. The hotel is really a large B&B and not your typical hotel. It was nice to stay someplace different and unique. Our room wasn't in the main building...but instead on the 3rd floor of the Historic Mansion overlooking the pool. Our room was spacious and the bed/linens/pillows were outstanding (and we are picky). VERY high quality! The a/c worked perfect and bathroom was normal size. Room and bathroom very clean with excellent soaps/lotion/shampoo/conditioner. The only downside of the room was the hot water. It took 10 minutes for sink water to heat up and 10-15 for shower water. After 5 minutes in shower, my husband lost all hot water. His shower wasn't immediately after mine.....it had been about 30 minutes. The pool looked nice, but it wasn't heated and mid-May isn't that warm in Napa...so no swimming for us. I was going to go in the spa....but it felt only about 90-95 degrees and this was at 6pm. I felt it again about 9pm after I mentioned to hotel staff, but it hadn't changed. Such as shame, as spa is beautiful...as is area around it....too bad they can't heat it a little hotter so guests will want to use and enjoy. The breakfast area is nice and we loved coffee, fruit, pastries and service. We were confused about menu - there were just two items (a berry French Toast and a hash/egg/potatoe plate). We didn't realize you didn't have to pick these and could order what you want. It didn't say this clearly. The French Toast wasn't tasty (sort of a strange combo of wheat bread, cinnamon and berry syrup....wasn't good) and the hash patty deal was way too done, eggs not prepared as ordered...but potatoes were excellent.
I probably would not recommend this hotel if you have any physical limitations. The Historic Mansion we stayed at has no elevator and carrying stuff up 2 flights of stairs wasn't a good time. The front desk clerk made no mention of a bellman....but later that night we saw a bellman or front desk staff guy carrying someone else's bags from their car and up the stairs. Wish he was around or that front desk staff person mentioned we could ask for assistance, when we checked in at 4pm. We are in our 40's and could handle it, but if you are older or have a physical limitation...might not want to choose this hotel. Even if you stayed on bottom floor of main or another building, grounds of entire hotel area would not be walker or wheelchair friendly.
