The Trefethen winery tour is very nice for the beginner to intermediate wine "appreciator." The grounds don't have the grandeur that some of the other wineries in the valley portray, but you're presented with sort of a down-to-earth attitude that says, "We make wine here." The wines themselves are very good, especially the estate pinot noir and a couple of the chardonnay vintages - very fruit-forward, not what has become accepted as the "typical" California chard, big and buttery. It was actually very nice, crisp and refreshing, almost of the sauv blanc persuasion. One of our party is a member of the winery, so we received very personalized service - spent nearly 2 hours there and tried most of their wines. I think together we ended up buying nearly 2 cases of wine there. Regardless, if you're going to Napa, check out Trefethen - you might just end up joining the club.
