We stayed at the Napa Andaz in January 2013 when perhaps they were still working out their kinks in staffing. I certainly agree with some of the other comments that some staff can be snooty, while others were very friendly and helpful. It was our first stay in an Andaz property so we were a bit unprepared for the informal check-in process. The complimentary glass of wine was drinkable; it was not the regular plonk.

We also had some issues about our reserved room which were somewhat addressed during and after we checked out. Interestingly, one staff member was very helpful and followed through as he promised; another staff member just made promises and never followed through.

Self-parking was definitely inconvenient, as you had to park in a separate building behind the hotel and then walk to the hotel. Using the alley-way and back entrance did make the walk shorter though. But heck, what can one expect for free parking?

As others have mentioned, the location is walkable to the Oxbow Public Market, a recommended place to visit for any foodie, though it would be another 1/2 mile or so to La Toque in the Westin property. It is not a walk i would do at night as the there is not a lot of sidewalk traffic then.

The room itself was very nice; from a space design standpoint, they did a nice job with what they had. It had a nice 42 inch tv and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom area was OK and the overhead rain forest shower in a marble shower enclosure was a nice feature. But i don't believe there was not a lot of storage space for any lengthy stay It also did not have any of the promised snacks or non-alcoholic drinks. I guess it was not re-stocked when the prior guest checked out. I called the "front desk" to point this out and they sent some popcorn and soft drinks in about an hour.

Unfortunately, the property does not have a fitness center or pool but provides access to a commercial fitness center in a separate building that was maybe 1/3 of a block away. We skipped our daily workout. I did see the outdoor fireplaces on the second floor, and that is a nice plus for the property.

One last comment: I was awakened from my afternoon nap by a call from the "front desk" asking about when I will be checking out despite having a confirmed late check out time which was still 45 minutes away. I can honestly say that that has never happened to me in any of my hotel stays, anywhere, anytime over a course of a lot of years. That was really annoying, unprofessional, and definitely brought down my overall rating to a three. Otherwise, it would still have been a four even with the other shortcomings.

I would definitely not stay here again if i knew i would go through the same experience. Still, the recent posts on Trip Advisor suggests that some or many of the staffing issues may have been resolved. I certainly hope so.

Room Tip: A view of first street may be a tad noisier but it is a lot more pleasant than looking at a back alley or parking lot.

Let us first say that we actually stayed here when it was still the AVIA. I have not been back since, but can't really see much changing. The location is centrally located, but the surrounding streets are not the type to go walking around on at night. The stay was clean and restful enough, but just not enough bang for the buck in my opinion. Maybe the new owners will make a difference??

We stayed for one night on our return from mendocino and it will be the only place we stay for all future trips to napa. There are so many positive features, its new, modern, impeccably clean, marble floors in the bathroom, hardwood floors in the bedroom and tv room, comfortable bed. No real check in desk when you arrive but rather a friendly person with an iPad ready to greet you, check you in, prepare your keys and hand you a glass of wine. The wine bar in the lobby serves as a mini breakfast counter in the morning and social wine gathering at nite. There is also a fire pit on the 2nd floor for relaxing and enjoying the evening. With all of the outdated and over priced hotels in Napa the Andaz is a breath of fresh air. Plus you can stay for one night, whereas many hotels require a 2 night minimum. Did I mention you are within walking distance of a ton of neat restaurants. Thumbs up to the Hyatt.

On entry into the large airy lobby, guests are greeted by friendly and professional staff, an array of comfortable sofas and chairs, lots of natural wood and light, and - of course - wine! Our room was spacious, well equipped and spotless - bathrooms are gorgeous! There is a large outdoor terrace on the 2nd floor with a variety of seating in sun or shade, and fire pits for cooler evenings - a great place to meet fellow Napa visitors! We had breakfast in the large, open concept restaurant, which was great. I have read reviews that were negative about the staff wearing jeans and walking around with iPads to check you in - we loved it. It created a modern but casual atmosphere and invited you to relax and enjoy your visit.

This is our second stay in an Andaz and if possible, was better than the first. The decor is phenomenal and very "Napa." The rooms are very spacious and clean. There was a tub in the living room which we found a bit strange... The service was impeccable, one of the greeters a tad snooty, but it is Napa. Everyone else was great and very accommodating. Would absolutely come back!
