We ended our trip to Northern California with a stay at AVIA Hotel in Napa. This hotel is a gem - real boutique feel, snazzy rooms, fantastic shower, very contemporary and hip furnishings in the room and lobby. A great open Terrace on the 2nd floor for relaxing outdoors. All this right in the middle of a much improved, beautifully redone City of Napa. We were impressed at all the changes downtown. AVIA is steps away from many fine restaurants - no driving needed. Walk along the river for an enjoyable after-dinner visit to the new downtown area. Valet car service and front desk personnel were welcoming and efficient. There is a large safe in the closet for computers, etc. We dined nearby at Allegria in a former bank building and had a great meal. Very impressed - will be back, I'm sure.

The staff was very friendly and helpful in providing things to do and places to check out. The room we stayed in felt small but it had a great modern feel to it and had a comfortable bed. We had a view of the patio with the fireplace which was nice and provided a lot light during the day. It's a very well decorated hotel with different spots you can just hang out in. Although it was pricey, I would have to recommend this place for the ambiance and comfort.

Avia is a boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Napa. The decor is upscale/modern with a whimsical twist. Each room is designed and furnished differently.
Wonderful brunch in the morning.
Concierge was extremely helpful with sending us off on our way up north start our wine tasting excursion.

Room Tip: They do offer upgrades (larger rooms etc).

First off, this hotel is really beautiful. The lobby is very nice, the rooms are great, aesthetically, it is a very pleasing hotel. The location is also an added bonus as you can walk to top quality restaurants near by.

The hotel comes with several flaws though:
1) The dining options are sub-par. The menu is very limited and the room service menu is even more limited. I went to dinner at the restaurant and there were two entrees! What kind of restaurant has only two entrees?? Also, it was completely vacant at 8pm, there was one couple in the entire restaurant which was a big turn off. Fortunately, there are great dining options nearby since Avia's don't quite cut it.

2) No pool. There is an indoor pool at the free gym next door but no pool to dip your toe into after a long day of wine tasting. Kind of a bummer.

3) The staff while very nice is in desperate need of training. I was told contradictory things on multiple occasions. Someone said there would be live music, but when I got to the patio, I found out it wasn't happening. I'd ask for nearby breakfast places and got contradictory responses. Worst, I asked for my car to be ready and they just forgot about my request and I had to wait 15 minutes which was a huge pain considering that we had a flight to catch.

4) They are doing construction and room upgrades during the weekend. I don't want to see people moving furniture in the hotel and using a passenger elevator as a freight elevator - super tacky! Do this during off peak times.

So while I think Avia has great potential, it really needs improvement on the service and dining side for me to consider staying there again. I'd give it 3.5 starts. If you get a great deal OR don't care about dining and excellent service, then this place is just fine.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know of the challenges you had during your stay. We know this is not the level of service expected of a hotel of our caliber and certainly not the level of service we are used to delivering. I would love to have the opportunity to speak with you about your stay and how we can work together on a future visit so that we may show you what the AVIA Napa is really all about!

I appreciate your patience and understanding as we learn and grow and look forward to speaking with you at your convenience.

In hospitality,
Kristine Youngberg, General Manager
