Owner description: Located on 217 acres in the Carneros region of Napa Valley, di Rosa houses the foremost collection of contemporary Bay Area art, with nearly 2,000 works by 800 artists. A wide range of styles, media, and subject matter provide an overview of the creative energy and freedom to experiment that characterize this region of California. The Gatehouse Gallery welcomes drop-in visitors to view di Rosa’s current exhibition, but in order to view the full extent of the collection (including the Main Gallery, Residence, and Sculpture Meadow) a tour is required. These informal, guided tours include time for independent viewing of the artwork. Open Wednesday through Sunday. Advance reservations for tours are highly recommended.

“One of the Places That Makes Napa Special”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Most people in Napa, let alone tourists, do not know about this art gallery, former home and sculpture garden located in the Carneros District of Napa. It was the residence of Rene DiRosa who was smart enough to buy a lot of land out there and plant grapes and eccentric enough to put together one of the most interesting art collections in California.

Rene was a unique man who always went his own way and the art and surroundings resonate with his vibrant and unstoppable lust for life. He was a loud, strong presence in life and his legacy preserves that about him and is a great window into a time period when California was gaining notice as a haven for interesting artists that were not derivative and worked unafraid.

The Preserve is really worth a visit. There is always time to see another winery later.

“One of a kind experience”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

Definitely take a tour because that's the only way you get to see the gallery. They take you up to hill in a little trailer (painted black and white like a Holstein cow). The docent we had was very knowledgeable and shared all sorts of insider stories.

The collection of contemporary (since the 60's) Northern California art is astounding, perhaps the best in the world. Beautiful, unique house absolutely crammed full of interesting art!

“Be sure to arrive for the tour”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Be sure to time your visit to at least have the choice of taking a tour. I didn't and do regret it. The pieces that were on display in the gallery were quite interesting. I know I missed a big opportunity with the tour. Golly gee; I guess I'll have to visit Napa again.
