Attraction details
Owner description: Located on 217 acres in the Carneros region of Napa Valley, di Rosa houses the foremost collection of contemporary Bay Area art, with nearly 2,000 works by 800 artists. A wide range of styles, media, and subject matter provide an overview of the creative energy and freedom to experiment that characterize this region of California. The Gatehouse Gallery welcomes drop-in visitors to view di Rosa’s current exhibition, but in order to view the full extent of the collection (including the Main Gallery, Residence, and Sculpture Meadow) a tour is required. These informal, guided tours include time for independent viewing of the artwork. Open Wednesday through Sunday. Advance reservations for tours are highly recommended.

“A hidden treasure”

This is worth paying the $15.00 per person charge. The treasures you will see once you have the full tour, you will be grateful of the price. We highly recommend.

Schedule some time to visit this art palace. Local Bay Area artists featured in beautiful studios, expansive grounds, whimsical.

Funny that something other than a winery was the highlight of our trip to wine country. Without a doubt this is the probably the most unique and interesting art gallery tour I've ever been to and my wife who is an art major actually agrees with me on this one. Even the grounds of house and gallery are beautiful with peacocks running around everywhere. Di Rosa had an incredible eye for art soley using artists with a bay area connection. Both tour guides were great and replete with knowledge about not only the art, but also the history of how it was collected. Definitely a must see if anywhere near napa or sonoma.

“Beautiful property & art”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

Lovely way to learn about this great collection. You'll need a reservation. It was interesting to learn about the founder, whose father was the Italian consul in Boston early 20th Century and who bought land in Napa which was sold to wineries.
The art is just fantastic: funny, beautiful and perfectly installed.

“Gatehouse Gallery a total rip off!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

This place reeks of attitude and artistic pretension in the worst sort of way. Wanting to make a quick stop to see a few examples of sculpture from this collection, we entered the Gatehouse Gallery where a sign stands front and center requesting a "suggested donation" of $5 per person ($20 for a party of four). The words "suggested" and "donation" seemed to imply these should be voluntarily given rather than demanded as they were by the desk clerk prior to being granted entry. The Gatehouse collection of about five sculptures and an exhibit of mediocre photos takes all of ten minutes to see and is certainly not worth $5 per person and based on my experience here, I'd suggest avoiding this place.
