Owner description: Located on 217 acres in the Carneros region of Napa Valley, di Rosa houses the foremost collection of contemporary Bay Area art, with nearly 2,000 works by 800 artists. A wide range of styles, media, and subject matter provide an overview of the creative energy and freedom to experiment that characterize this region of California. The Gatehouse Gallery welcomes drop-in visitors to view di Rosa’s current exhibition, but in order to view the full extent of the collection (including the Main Gallery, Residence, and Sculpture Meadow) a tour is required. These informal, guided tours include time for independent viewing of the artwork. Open Wednesday through Sunday. Advance reservations for tours are highly recommended.

“Di Rosa...a Marvelous Art Experience”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

This is an art museum in Napa Valley which does not get a lot of press. It was an amazing collection. Their hours are limited and you must go on a guided tour, but it was well worth doing. I still remember the interesting types of art and the varied mediums. It is a private collection. check it out. You will not be disappointed. Also, the location is beautiful. Right on a pond.

“The Di Rosa Preserve is a major art collection of hippy era fine art.”
Reviewed December 23, 2011

This is an extensive collection of sculpture, painting and collage art, all of fine quality. There is too much to see in one visit. It is different in that it was collected around the time of the hippy movement "summer of love". There are large galleries indoors and gardens and a lake with sculpture outdoors. There are also rotating exhibits from other galleries in the U.S. and abroad. You will see the home of the collector, Mr. Di Rosa, a newspaper publisher from San Francisco. Well worth seeing. You usually need reservations for the guided tour.

“Great excursion”
Reviewed November 23, 2011

We visited Di Rosa on a chilly November day, 2011. The site is spectacular - acres of vineyards dotted with large pieces of contemporary art and sculpture, two galleries, and the former home of the eclectic and eccentric collector, Rene Di Rosa, who died in 2010. Don't miss the chapel, a wonderful video installation. The collection is large and well-displayed, and you also get a sense of the unusual man whose drive, patronage and early enthusiasm for Northern California contemporary art was critically important to some now-famous artists.

Absolutely wonderful art gallery indoors and outdoors. Lovely scenery and docent guides that are informative, relaxed and friendly. A nice break from all the "wine" tasting!!!
