Owner description: Stags' Leap Winery is truly a hidden gem in the highly acclaimed Stags Leap District. Located off a long, private road, our nineteenth-century stone winery and Victorian era Manor House are nestled against the Stags Leap Palisades east of the Silverado Trail. We invite you to make a reservation and visit this magical place with its beautiful gardens and stylish wines including the award-winning field blend, Ne Cede Malis, and opulent "The Leap" and "Audentia" Cabernet Sauvignon. We are open by appointment only and are unable to accommodate drop in guests due to traffic restrictions on our private road.

“I wish I had gone to the other Stag's Leap”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2013

This winery has a little bit of history, which is great, but if the past is more interesting than the wines, there is a problem. Our guide was lovely, but she knew a lot more about the buildings than the winemaking nuances, which is what we wanted to learn. The site is quite beautiful, the home is spectacular, and the artist in residence program they have makes for some lovely artwork to view. The wines are good and we were able to try a lot of them. If you don't get to Napa all the time, and you could only see a few wineries, I would give this one a miss. If you do go, pay attention at the roadside - we drove right by it.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful inside and out. Lemon and grapefruit trees, gorgeous natural gardens and landscaping, incredible view of the hillside and the valley with vineyards as far as the eye can see. Rich in very interesting history and architecture. Faith is a perfect hostess and the wines we tasted were very nice!

“Tour of Stags' Leap”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2013

I took a tour of Stags' Leap winery in early February, part of a group of eight. As a tasting, it was enjoyable. But we had expected and paid for a winery tour. After our return home, I sent the following email to Stags' Leap repeatedly, over the course of two weeks. I include it here reluctantly, only because I never received the courtesy of any response whatsoever from this winery. Make of it what you will. My brief email to Stags' Leap follows.

I am writing to express my disappointment and displeasure with our 'tour and tasting' of February **. As a tasting it was fine and enjoyable, and our guide was amiable enough. But there was no tour to speak of. We were told in advance to wear good walking shoes. But where did we walk? To the manor's dining room to taste, to the front lawn to survey the fields and production facilities from afar, to the side of the manor to view the empty swimming pool. That was it. Your 'visit winery' web page refers to 'our landmark nineteenth century stone winery'. Yes, we could see that building in the distance.

We have taken tours during previous trips to Napa and they have invariably shown you their wine making production and process (and the best tours also take you into the vineyards), always accompanied by knowledgeable discussion of their wine making process and of what makes this winery special. We enjoyed none of that at Stags' Leap, and we had no tour at all during this most recent visit to Napa (this was the only tour we had arranged).

As a group of eight, we spent $440 for this wine tasting which we had been led to believe included a tour. In the future, for the sake of truth in advertising and for those of us who enjoy your wine, please call this simply a tasting-- for that is all that it is-- and let the public decide in advance whether it is worth the price.

“Great discovery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013 via mobile

We came upon this beautiful winery by accident and it was a blessing in disguise. Matt was our gracious host who went out of his way to treat us as family. He is very proud of Stags Leap Wine Cellars. We will recommend this place to any of our friends coming to this area.

“Good wine, poor service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

Stags' Leap Wine Cellars has a history of making great wine and still does so. The problem is that it gets so crowed that they rush you along and provide very little information or history on the vineyard. Worth a quick stop (and it will be quick!), but be prepared for a very commercial feel.
