“A fun tour for our family!”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

We toured the Mercer caverns with our family of 4 (kids ages 9 and 7). The tour guide was a lot of fun, pointing out all the different things in the cavern in an entertaining way. There were lots of steps going down and up 16 stories, but there were frequent breaks at the platforms where the tour guide talked, and so it did not seem bad. My whole family really enjoyed the tour!

“Lots of fun for our family!”

We had a family party of ten and the tour guide was very pleasant and helpful. The caverns are beautiful and well worth a visit. The teenagers were happy and so were the younger kids. A great budget family event.

“Excellent Tour”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

Really enjoyed our tour. The guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The entire facility was very well maintained and attractive. There were many steps (440 down and up) , but the guide stopped the group at several platforms to talk and allow the group to rest. The handrails were very helpful for negotiating the stairs. I didn't have any trouble. (57 year old in average shape). The tour was 45 minutes.

“A great place to tour in a hot afternoon.”
Reviewed August 16, 2013 via mobile

Six of us signed up for the guided tour of the Mercer caves. Everyone had a great time. The tour was very educational and the guide was quite knowledgable and very entertaining. He kept it light and funny. Walking down 16 stories of steps was physically challenging but there were sufficient breaks so you could recover from the climb out. All in all it was a great experience. I recommend it you try it.

“Lot of Variety”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Mercer Caverns is less than a half mile from downtown Murphys, but unless you are in super shape I strongly advise you not to walk it. Sheep Ranch road starts out with a mild upgrade but about halfway there it turns into a VERY steep downhill. Which means a VERY steep uphill after climbing down and up the Mercer Cavern stairs. Mercer is very different from Moaning Caverns which is about 10-12 miles southwest from here. Moaning Caverns is a huge open area with impressive stalagmites. But it is mostly a drab tan color inside. Mercer Caverns is instead a large collection of much smaller caverns but much more colorful. Especially the ribbon runs. Note that it is a steep stairway down and the same coming out but worth the effort if you enjoy caving.
