We went to Murphy's to enjoy the weather and do some wine tasting. Unfortunately, we did not think reservations at any of the hotels/motels/b&b would be necessary...we were wrong !!

We stopped at the Murhy Motel to see if there were any available rooms. The motel seemed quiet and within walking distance of the downtown area for wine tasting and shopping. It was the only hotel/motel in area that had a vacancy and since we didn't make any reservations prior to our trip, we stayed there . Althouh quiet, it lacks about any ammenity even the smallest hotel/motel usually offer. There is no continental breakfast, one packet of coffee per room, no actual glasses or cups (all plastic even coffee cups), hasn't been updated for probably 20 years and beds were miserable. Our room also had hairs on the shower walls, a button on the floor (not vaccumed very well) and a baby bottle with some sour liquid in it lying next to the coffee pot. It felt unclean.

I have been told by friends that have stayed there in the past that this is the least expensive hotel/motel in the area. So, if you don't mind a room with very few amenities for an relatively inexpensive price, this would be it.

We recently had a girlfriends getaway at Murphys. For most of the group, it was the first time for them staying here and they were happy with the accommodations. The place is clean, beds are comfy and the location is perfect. My only complaint is that this place can be a bit "stuffy". We had our group to my room for a pre-dinner 'reception'. Mind you, this was 6:00 in the evening. We had music playing and it was on the loud side, admittedly, however, remember this is 6:00 - DINNER TIME!! . The desk called and said two rooms complained!! I find that hard to believe. We turned the music down, and headed to our dinner about 30 minutes later. The next night, when one of our ladies had to go to the front desk for something, the gal at the desk reprimanded her again for the night before and warned that there had better not be loud music again that night. WOW - I could completely understand if we had played music loudly early in the morning or past the posted quiet time of 10 pm. But this was very early evening, and the music wasn't that loud the first night before the phone call, and not loud by any stretch of the imagination the second night. Lighten up people!!

Last stayed here 6 years ago. Would not have stayed here but my riding companions insisted. It was a pleasant surprise. Friendly staff, easy check in, comfortable bed. Couple of things keep this from being better reviewed. No coffee put out for the in room coffee pot. Had to track down the night clerk to get coffee. (not sure if night clerk is appropriate for 5:30 am?) big holes in the window screen. Had to keep window open since the air conditioner was a bit anemic. One of the other guests shampooed his hair with body lotion. Seems the maid forgot the shampoo and left two lotions. His scalp did look smooth and soft.. As we were getting ready to leave we saw the maid arrive. She came out to the parking lot to have a smoke and to knock big chunks of mud off her pickup truck. Guessing help is hard to find in Murphy's

We arrived at least 3 hours before check-in not expecting a room to be ready but they were happy to accommodate us after a few minutes wait. The location is walking distance to the main drag in Murphys (though the sidewalk is only a suggestion in places- wear flats!), so great for those who would like to go wine tasting. We had a simple, comfortable room that faced the highway but didn't have any problems with noise. The pool was nice for a quick splash on a hot day. This place doesn't have the same character and history as some of the other local options, but for us we preferred to enjoy the character and history during the day and sleep somewhere inexpensive, comfortable and modern at night, plus the short walk from the center of town helps you burn off some of those wine and CA cuisine calories :)

This is a great motel - the price is reasonable, it's nice and clean and it's walking distance to the wonderful wineries, restaurants and shops of Murphys. It's nothing fancy, but we've found it perfect for a girl's getaway and I love that the beds are COMFORTABLE!! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming both at the motel and throughout the town. Can't wait for our next Calaveras County escape!
