“Love the food and the history!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2014

Murphy's Restaurant and Hotel is a must see if you are visiting the town Murphy's ( or anywhere near). The food and service are wonderful, and the interior feels like you have stepped back in time. We stayed in Angels Camp for a week and ate at Murphy's Restaurant and Saloon 3 times during that week. The saloon is a wonderful spot to talk to the locals and gain knowledge of the wealth of local history. My daughter and I were thrilled to have Brian - one of the owners - graciously take us on a tour of the hotel's guest rooms. The doors have the names and the dates that famous people have stayed, such as: Mark Twain, Black Bart and Ulysses S. Grant. We also toured the room their legendary ghost Eleanor favors most. Brian's enthusiasm and passion for the business, and the town, were wonderful to see. When he talks about each room, he makes you feel as if you are going back in time. We knew nothing about Murphy's when traveled across the country to visit California, now we can't wait to go back!!

“At the heart of this Gold Rush town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2014

The Murphys Hotel IS the heart of town: one of the oldest establishments offering food, drink, rooms and history. The restaurant has recently been upgraded, due in part to a reality television show, but mostly in appearance. We eat there, with friends, mostly at breakfast or lunch, and often more than once a week.
The breakfast menu is complete, with everything from a basic bargain breakfast if you arrive early, to eggs Benedict. We've tried it all, and it is almost always good-to-excellent.
The early breakfast special is an extremely good deal in an expensive tourist town, but the other items on the menu are reasonable priced. They offer specials almost every day.
The luncheon menu is reasonably diverse, with specials and the regular soups, salads and sandwiches.
One thing that keeps us coming back is the wait staff. The personnel are all experienced, courteous, and helpful. It speaks well for the place that many of the staff have been there for several years.
In good weather they offer patio seating, and in summer this can be a wonderful spot to linger.
Once in a while the kitchen gets overwhelmed, and service is slowed, but this is not a spot for to rush: relax and enjoy the ambiance and the people around you.
We like it an go there often. It is friendly, less pretentious than some of the touristy spots, and the make us feel welcome.

“good old fashion saloon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

When you walk into the bar/saloon you walk into history. The bar itself I believe dates back to the gold rush days. The decor is lots of animal head's and wood floors that seemed to be original. Made me think that at any moment Mark twain would walk in. The food is excellent especially their famous fried chicken. Service is friendly and quick.

“Fabulous!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014

Valentine date for dinner and overnight stay in the hotel did not disappoint us! We enjoyed every minute from the cocktails, dinner and motel room.
The original menu was back too! The owners are always a delight to visit with - warm welcome, smiles and great service.
We live in Columbia so it's an easy getaway but we go often and refreshes us to getaway from chores, etc. at home.
Room was very clean and comfortable, staff friendly and accomodating. We always enjoy chatting with the other patrons too. Ordered our favorite treat - fried chicken with mash potatoes, french onion soup and delicious salad.

“California History at Its' Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2014

I did not dine at the Murphy's Hotel but did tour the old building and would definitely recommend a visit to this very historic property if you are in the area. It is truly a great compliment to the Gold Rush era.
