“Good Food and Good Beer in Northern California”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

My wife and I recently had lunch with family members at Steins. The decor and furniture is pretty basic (we sat at a long table with equally long benches on each side), but the food was very good and the selection of beers is excellent. I had a local brew and a vegetable stew and both were worthy of a high recommendation. My wife had a burger and coffee and was pleased with both. It's a beer garden type setting, so if you're looking for white tablecloth stuff this is probably not the place. For a good and varied general menu and some very good beer, this is a great place.

“Great Beer Selection”
Reviewed December 31, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

Nice fun place for Mt View to have beers and burgers. Always busy and crowded. Part beer garden type set up, part No CA outdoor seating, part sports bar. Food is ok, staff is always pleasant.

“Octoberfest!”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

Our timing was good. They have about 30 imported German beers on tap, plus a special Oktoberfest menu -- has a fabulous Port Schnitzel. Only thing missing was the waitresses dressing up in those cute Bavarian outfits. A really fun night, great food.

“Fun evening, great dinner in Mt. View at Steins Beer Garden”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

We enjoyed a family supper on an early Sunday evening at the Beer Garden. The evening was warm, and the doors were open to the street, which was wonderful. Our server started us off with beverages and answered all of our questions on the menu. One had the lemonade, another had one of the beers that was on tap, and one had the coffee (brought in a single-size french press.) Our meal portions were very generous: fried chicken sandwich (substituting a salad for fries), flank steak sandwiches (one person substituted the fries for truffle fries - yum!), and another member had the Vegetable Stew, which was a hearty blend of fresh, grilled vegetables on a bed/base of quinoa and another grain -- wonderful -- served with three pieces of grilled bread. We didn't have room for dessert, and took half of a sandwich home. Great servers, nice atmosphere, and highly recommended!

“Limited food, good beer”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

This place has potential, just not realized, yet. The beer selection is pretty good - but considering the bounty of local brews (RR, Lagunitas, Drakes, Hermitage, GB and more), it's not killer. If you just took the SD All Star Team (Stone, Green Flash, Strauss, etc.) and added their lineup, you'd clean up. C'est la vie.
The food is good, not great. Actually the pretzel was the hit, for me. Fresh, very good texture, plenty of salt, and a very nice mustard. Next time, just the pretzel and beer.
