Very unfortunate, this neighborhood sushi place has been a fixture on Castro for 15+ years. Never really did much outreach or marketing, but had a loyal following of locals.
To be replaced 'Japanse Fusion Tapas', according to the new sign.
Good to old owners!

There are several EXCELLENT sushi places in the area, but I like the homey atmosphere, super-fresh fish, and nice service. It's generally quiet, families usually go early, and they've survived 20 years at this location - that speaks volumes in Mountain View!

Their early bird dinners (until 6:30 pm) are hard to beat. The food quality has been consistent over the years. It's great for families!

If you are seeking a place that does fancy rolls - go to Michi in Campbell - but know that in Japan the only real roll is tekka or kappa maki. Sushi-tei will make the rolls - but it is not their forte.
If you want ladies in kimono serving you - this is also not the place for you.
If you want a sushi bar that could be in the warrens under Shibuya station catering to hungry and picky Japanese heading home - this place is for you.
The Daruma on the shelf, the very understated but Japanes decor, remind of some of my favorite haunts in Tokyo.
And Isaka-san and his spouse Yoko-san (she is on the cash register) run a placee that could be a Japanese "Cheers".
I go there as often as I can afford - sushi ain't cheap anywhere, and Isaka-san is not bargain basement.
But the fish is extremely fresh, the presentation is always very attractive, the rice is prepared and served properly (you can't see it without turning the nigiri over) and I have never had a bad experience.
