We used to look forward to coming here every week as a family. But we avoid it now. The veggies are often not washed well enough. The tomatoes are pulverized and clearly not fresh. The kale is not washed but grainy and discolored. The spinach is decomposing. The pasta is always old and crusty looking. The people seem to avoid the soups, crusty and untouched. The service is hit and miss. Sometimes there is a guy there clearing tables that is very helpful. But the management hates to see our AAA discount card or our free meal deal cards and we are tired of the unfriendly greating we seem to get from management at the register. I have been opting for Sweet Tomatoes lately simply because I am tired of expecting fresh food from Fresh Choice and getting any choices that resemble their name. And above all they raised their prices as if we want to pay more for rotting food. No thanks.

Lunch is the freshest meal here, though dinners can be very fresh if you arrive after 6PM. The lettuce and spinach are not always in great shape but they recently added more organic and/or local veggies. Once in a while I will steer clear of certain things like the tomatoes when they are clearly pulverized and rotting at the buffet counter (not a pretty picture, I know) but most of the time we are pleased. They also serve a choice of three pizzas (usually pepperoni, butter garlic, and cheese. The pasta bar includes mac and cheese, spaghetti with a choice of two or more sauces, pho, and maybe a pesto or roasted veggies. Five soups, often with a spicy choice, like the veggie lentil. The fresh fruit (at certain times of the year) is in poor shape but at other times very enjoyable--lately the fresh watermelon and honey melon have been good. They also have frozen yogurt and other deserts like puddings or muffins/cookies. There are a wide range of drinks to choose from, though often they are out of stock in something. Last week an elderly man was clearly disappointed that they were out of beer. He had made his salad and was at the register when he was informed. Other times we have not been able to get regular milk for our son or when we we have it was sometimes partially frozen (though they may have fixed the problem since we have not had any frozen milk lately). We keep coming here for lunches and dinners, about two to four times a month, because the price is right and our 2 1/2 year old son insists on it (he gobbles up the veggies beans and plain pasta every time). We can feed him for free and my husband and myself for under $25. We use our AAA membership card for 10% off and that breaks down the cost a little, too. Most of the time we are satisfied with this restaurant and enjoy watching our son eat so many veggies while eating out which is not always easy to have happen at other restaurants where they drench their veggies in butter or deep fry them. It is a super great value and larger than the Fresh Choice in Sunnyvale.
