“My worst Michelin experience in the bay area”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

I don't understand how some of the restaurants get their Michelin stars. The food was awful. Some dishes were so bad that I couldn't eat them. The wine pairing was really bad. I don't think they know their wine at all. Some wine not only didn't add anything to the dish, it made the dish taste really bad.

Service was extremely slow, snobby and unfriendly. For the price, there are many other Michelin restaurants that will give you a much better experience. Many non-Minchelin-starred restaurants can give you a better dining experience than Chez TJ.

I've been here twice, giving it another chance but the 2nd time was worse than the first time.

I will not return again.

“A real taste treat”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Just had a four-course dinner with an added amuse bouche and palate cleanser. Absolutely delicious. Portions are very small, but each bite is exquisite, and by the end of 4+ courses, one doesn't walk away hungry. Service was a little slow, but we were a larger group.

“Fantastic”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

Went to see Chef Joey Elenterio only to find he had moved one. The remarkable thing about Chez TJ is that the owner has managed to find chefs of such culinary acumen that the meals here are consistently good regardless of the current talent. One should go & experience the place for yourself. Great fine dining at reasonable prices.

“Pricy, snobby, but romantic”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

It is a unique homey but elegant restaurant in a neighborhood near Castro Street. If the service was more friendly, we would visit more often

“the only special restaurant in mountain view”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

This is the only Michelin star restaurant in Mountain View. They always flirt with a second star, and never quite make it (there's Baume, which did get a second star, up in Palo Alto - a previous chef - but I don't like baume). The problem with Chez TJ is for that kind of food, you really want to go to Manresa down in Los Gatos, which is clearly the best restaurant south of san francisco, and lots of great chefs have trained there. Chez TJ is very good, in that same modern tasting menu way, but not quite at the same level. But if you're on this part of the peninsula, it's on the very short list for a special occasion dinner.
